My trip to Last Word Kitara exceeded all my expectations. The lodge is located on a river that continued to attract all sorts of animals including Waterbuck, Elephants and African buffalos. The daily safaris were fantastic and I was surprised at how many animals we saw each day. But it’s the staff that makes the place. They were welcoming and very accommodating. I would recommend going!

“Fabulous - a very special place”

Last Word Kitara is an absolute gem of a property. 1 hour 40 mins from the airport is well worth it as this ensures that you are in a very quiet area of the reserve and then have no pressure from other vehicles when you have an amazing sighting all to yourself. Last Word Kitara is an absolute gem of a property. 1 hour 40 mins from the airport is well worth it as this ensures that you are in a very quiet area of the reserve and then have no pressure from other vehicles when you have an amazing sighting all to yourself. The lodge itself is gorgeous with the deck overlooking the river being a highlight for us this time, with elephants coming right up to the rooms (nearly joining me for an outdoor shower at one point). We also sat and watched birds, buffalo and waterbuck from the deck area. Food is fabulous, fresh and beautifully prepared, and the little special touches when you are out on a game drive are lovely. Matty our guide, and Patrick our tracker were fabulous. Matty is very inspirational with his depth of knowledge on all things from stories of the night skies to his passion for the animals (every one is his favourite), conservation and the African bush. They ensured we had the most amazing once in a lifetime sightings of wild dogs and the most beautiful leopard. Even on the last day of his 6 weeks rotation, Matty was full of enthusiasm and humour. The intimate size of the lodge means you get to spend time with the other guides and staff too, as well as chatting to other guests round the campfire or at the bar. A very special place.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home by the team at Last Word Kitara. This is a truly special place, located in the Klaserie private game reserve. There's total peace and tranquility. With only 6 guest lodges, you feel like you're part of a family. Our lodge overlooked the river bank, where wildlife wandered past right in front of us. It was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very spacious. Huge thanks to Nathan & Marla, Connor & Rejane, Pierre & Susan, and Matty for looking after our every need, and of course to all the lovely catering and housekeeping staff. The food was excellent and plentiful. We really couldn't have asked for more. Our ranger Nathan, and Jomo our tracker, were so knowledgeable and made every game drive a fun, entertaining and exciting experience. We very rarely came across other vehicles so it really feels like it's just you and the wild life. We were sad to leave after our 4 night stay here, and hope to be able to return one day. We would highly recommend Last Word Kitara to anyone looking for a special, personal safari experience. You will not be disappointed!

I have stayed in many Safari lodges in South Africa and Botswana over the years, but this was truly the best. The atmosphere was very convivial . From the moment we arrived we felt as if we were at home. The management staff came straight out and introduced themselves and took us to the eating area for drinks and food.A big shout out to Pierre ,Susan,Nathan and Mala for that lovely welcome. In our accommodation very little detail was thought of .Our room overlooked the riverbank. The public spaces were welcoming and there was always a member of staff at hand to get you whatever you wanted that glass of wine coffee etc. The chef came over daily to describe the breakfast special of the day and after lunch the evening meal choices. The food was always well presented healthy and quite ‘cheffy’- there was so much of it we never felt hungry. There were also nice touches like a bottle of gin in the bedroom and a night time treat left on the bed before we retired. Plenty of towels . We stayed for 5 nights and there was no repetition of food . One night we had a lovely brai around the camp fire. We went on 10 game drives - sometimes we stayed out a little longer if we were in pursuit of something. Sundowners and morning coffees were always accompanied by home made treats. Our driver Nathan was excellent so knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour.Jomo our tracker up front worked so hard and together they managed find us some excellent sightings. This was my first experience The Last Word Safari Camps but it won’t be my last as they say Lovely People Lovely Places
