This review is long overdue - I thought I had reviewed Geiger's already! We went to Geiger's camp in early February, the day they opened after the historic floods. We didn't even know about the floods, showed up at Motswari, where we were originally booked, and told that we were the only guests! We were moved to Geiger since it's smaller and more intimate. We stayed for 4 nights, two nights we were the only guests and two nights where there was one other couple. Through no fault of the camp's, the sightings of animals was a disappointment. The roads were muddy and a lot of the area was off-limits. We drove for hours and hours looking for lions, and finally did see a pair, albeit in the distance. They sure tried, though! That being said, the hospitality of the staff was top-notch. We were pampered and felt like VIPs. I felt sick because of the malaria tablets I took, and they were so concerned for me and took good care of me. The room was excellent. You do need to heed their warnings to not walk alone after dark. There was a scorpion on the path one of the nights! The food was great, and we even had a private meal in the chef's kitchen. I loved the lunches more than the dinners!

Oh, what a wonderful place this is! We visited for five days/nights last week as an extended family, my wife and I, our two sons and their wives and our three grand-children (11, 8 and 7 year olds), nine of us in the party, to celebrate my 70th birthday. We had discussed this trip a year ago with the wonderful people at Motswari/Geigers front desk, Impumi, Phashwane and Patricia with Lillian stepping in for booking information. Taking young children to the bush is not usually advised - quite rightly, in my view, because game-drives can get boring for them and children playing around can upset the tranquility of other guests - but we struck on the idea of taking over the whole Geigers camp so any there would be no other guests to be annoyed. A terrific idea, made possible by the above-mentioned ladies - thank you all. The lodge is beautiful; five large super-comfortable suites perched on top of a small hill overlooking the bush towards the distant Drakensberg, a swimming pool on the large verandah (plus another pool attached to the superb Madjaji suite). Geigers is totally separate from the larger Motswari camp down the road so no danger of splashing children i the pool disturbing anyone. Although we adults have all been long-time bush visitors - mostly staying at Motswari, so we know it well - it was an opportunity to see the bush as if for the first time through the children's eyes. They absolutely loved every moment, sunrise to sunset, every creature and sound and interaction, they were first to the vehicle every game-drive and showed no squeamishness facing carcasses, kills and noisy animal interactions which make up so much of the safari experience. Wonderful game-viewing. And here I must give enormous credit to our guide, Josh, and tracker, Jacky, both of whom were incredibly welcoming of the three youngsters, patient and charming and amazing, teaching them what they could as we went along. Thank you so much. At the actual lodge we were looked after by Lovey and Jan I cannot say enough about they way they immediately welcomed us and the children, going out of their way to make sure everything we needed was taken care of. Their relationship with the children was incredible, so patient and caring, thank you. And thank you, too, Solly, for being around to take care of any small glitches which can arise in a bush-camp miles from anywhere! Finally, chef John; what a guy! His culinary presents to us every meal were simply astonishing but we will most remember him as someone who spent so much time with the children, making sure they were happy and content at mealtimes, John, you are a legend, we are grateful for having met you. This week at Geigers was probably the best holiday my family have ever had. Wonderful game-viewing and a wonderful lodge. My eight-year-old grandson sobbed his eyes out when we finally drove away to the airport, so sad to be leaving a place which he had loved. Thank you, everyone at Motswari/Geigers for making this so special. I cannot recommend a stay at either camp enough and as a family taking Geigers was an unforgettable thing.

What a fantastic place Motswari Geiger’s Camp is. If you are looking for the complete safari experience then this is the place to visit. If you are looking for good food and drink then this is the place to visit. If you are looking for quality accommodation and an excellent standard of service from the whole staff then, again, is the place to visit. The icing on the cake is provided by the superb guides and trackers who will make sure you get the full safari experience. We were very lucky to have Landon as our guide and Jaki as the tracker. Their knowledge and expertise was second to none. Their sole purpose was to give us the best experience and they truly did that. We were close up to the Big Five on many occasions and, added to this, we were lucky enough to see innumerable other animals, not least of all a leopard. There is not enough space here to describe all our experiences but in the hands of Landon and Jaki we experienced a safari well beyond our expectations. I cannot speak highly enough of the whole team at the camp who really are at the top of their game. Thanks again Landon and Jaki for making our time with you so special.

“Highly recommend Geigers Camp!”

Geigers camp is lovely. Incredible accommodations and the food was excellent. Our Guide/Tracker duo, Rudolf and Lot were very skilled, knowledgeable and hospitable. We had the opportunity to traverse all around the reserve and saw all of the Big Five plus many new/unexpected beauties! Going in May… more

Geigers camp is lovely. Incredible accommodations and the food was excellent. Our Guide/Tracker duo, Rudolf and Lot were very skilled, knowledgeable and hospitable. We had the opportunity to traverse all around the reserve and saw all of the Big Five plus many new/unexpected beauties! Going in May seemed like a great time to go as there were no mosquitoes and bush was not densely green which led to great sightings met with cold mornings and evenings. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back one day!
