Hoyo Hoyo is exactly the kind of place you want to stay while on a Safari Holiday in South Africa. The lodge and property are open to the wildlife and a small herd of elephants greeted us from across the river bed as we checked in. The small number of guest “huts” made for a very cozy and intimate stay. The “huts” are set up like a traditional village but the accommodations and details are definitely first class. The morning and afternoon wildlife drives were lots of fun and the knowledgeable guides and drivers made sure we had great close encounters with the animals. The dining experience was very high end and I loved the chance to try some game in an elevated way. A great visit.

“Hoyo Hoyo is super.”

Small 12 sleeper Lodge. Great food, friendly and helpful staff and management, room and amenities are good and comfortable. Food selection is good. Bar service good. Beautiful Concession for game viewing. All needs were met at this lodge. We are repeat guests at Hoyo Hoyo.

“Safari Lodge”

We had an excellent four day safari experience. The staff and lodgings were up to our expectations and the outdoor shower was great. The food was better than expected with plenty of variety.

We spent three nights here during a two-week South African vacation. We loved the African style of the lodge and the huts. All the staff was very welcoming and helpful. The safari drive guides are excellent and can spot the most camouflaged animals! The bathroom amenities were very nice and plentiful. The rooms have coffee stations and hairdryers. Bottled water is provided drinking and coffee; you can shower and brush your teeth with the tap water. The mix of guests was mostly European when we were there; since there are only six rooms you do get to chat with everybody. Breakfast was a buffet of cereal and cold items, plus the option to order eggs and sausage or bacon. Because of the remoteness, there were not a lot of different menu selections for lunch and dinner, but there was always a vegetarian option and we enjoyed all our meals very much. Recommended for couples who don't need honeymoon-level privacy. Note that you are in the bush: The generator went out briefly a couple of times when we were there; our first dinner was by kerosene lamplight (romantic!). And a small rodent of some kind got in our room and chewed open a milk packet in our coffee station. I am NOT complaining, I'm just saying: if this would freak you out or "ruin your vacation", this--or a safari at all--may not be the place for you.
