Arrived quite late, only 1 staff member checking in guests so we had a wait before we were seen. We were in unexpectedly upgraded (which was appreciated) however this meant our original booking was “over ridden” and we were told we had to pay an additional 72 euros for breakfast, even though our room rate included it originally. We declined breakfast. Room was big and comfy however very dirty. Our towels were full of make up and clearly hadn’t been changed since the last guest and the bedding smelt of stale sweat. I sent various emails to the hotel highlighting we were celebrating a birthday and was reassured this would be noted and something would be in the room - they did leave something a big of peanuts out of date! Very very very disappointed. Hotel itself is in a brilliant location so easy to walk to everything. Staff were friendly enough, just a little let fish by the lack of customer service

Good: I was delighted to arrive and be told by the charming receptionist Miss Angelica that I had an upgraded room with street view, balcony, coffee machine and whirlpool bath. The room is comfortable, however the very few English language TV channels have no signal - minor frustration. I also accepted and paid in advance for my 7 night stay the discounted breakfast rate offered at check in. Bad: On taking my first morning breakfast I was told that I had only paid for one and would need to contact the reception to pay for the rest of my stay. Gabriel at the front desk was insistent that this was the case, however on reviewing my account he eventually agreed that I had indeed paid for all 7 breakfasts. I invited him to apologise for the confusion and he did so, however this is not a professional way to operate a hotel and disrupted my enjoyment of an entirely adequate and decent breakfast buffet. Disappointing.

First of all, congratulations and a big thank you to Indigo Plaza de Catalunya for putting some dignity into their handicap room, it was not just spacious and well equipped, but also, DID NOT have windows facing a wall, an A/C unit, a maintenance facility, a water storage deposit, or any other “traditional” handicap room view, but rather a nice front street view. Something not many hotels care much about, especially those within year-bearing buildings such as European hotels. Having the curtains and windows open for soaking the city vibes in, before and after exploring Barcelona, really felt great!!! Moving on to other rubrics of interest about this hotel… LOCATION: couldn’t ask for a better one!!! Just within walking distance of Plaza de Catalunyaa and Pg. de Gràcia, which are a must for shopping, dining, and drinking when touring Barcelona. Also, Indigo Plaza de Catalunya is close to the homonymous train station (wheelchair accessible by the way), which can basically take you wherever in Barcelona and beyond; as an example, just a couple stops and 15 minutes away from Sagrada Familia. SERVICE: although friendly and courteous, could do better regarding serviceability, especially toward handicapped guests. Applies for both, the front desk and the restaurant, no body offering an extra hand or any kind of assistance. RESTAURANT SCENE: far from spectacular, in neither appearance nor quality, yet the breakfast buffet is assorted beyond the European pastries/charcuterie/coffee style, and reasonably priced also. PRICE: taking into consideration the aforementioned location, this hotel probably offers the best cost-benefit ratio; a better location will increase the price whereas a cheaper option will add time and distance to your commute. As an additional comment, the fact that this hotel is part of IHG also brings some extra pros and cons. On the pros side, you get IHG status recognition (and its corresponding perks), points redemption, cancellation flexibility, ease of booking (especially appreciated for handicap rooms), and near-compliant ADA requirements. On the cons side, when you stay at this kind of –somehow– homogenous properties, you definitely lose some of the trueness of the local spirit, don’t expect to get immersed within the Barcelonese culture while at this property.

Location is prime and this is about what this place has to offer, medium to poor reception service, between not recognising my status and offering me to pay for freebies I m due, to not allowing a friend of mine to seat in the lobby area, this is what I have experienced worse in an IHG for a while. They finally "upgraded" but it looked not an upgrade at all, to 203, a worn out room, where the bed heads looked 20 years old, used to the seam, the shower door corroded and rotten, the plastic joint broken into bits. Nothing was acceptable in this 12sqm size room, except the nespresso machine with non nespresso capsules. 145 euros to be here felt a waste of my money for such a poor experience and bad room
