Location: Great location in the heart of things, ensure you’re on the back if you may want the window open on a weekend. Staff: friendly and helpful Room: a/c really didn’t work well, maintenance came and ‘fixed it’ but didn’t make a different. We slept with the window open, would be a problem in warmer times. Room clean and comfy beds, very thick pillows but we asked for others and they were good. Carpet and bathroom a little dated. Like the extra door between the room and the bathroom corridor for noise reduction. Shower worked well, lots of hot water. All the usual amenities. Breakfast: 2 options. The a la carte brunch was much better than the buffet in our opinion but buffer had a good selection. Nice that bunch is served later for those who like to rise later! Over all would stay again if they sorted the a/c out.

The entrance and general ambiance of the Ercilla is very pleasant. The rooftop bar is just an excellent to sit looking at Bilbao. We stayed in a Vintage Premium room which was said to be one of their best. The room was spacious and pleasant, maybe at night the lights a little bright for me, but acceptable. There was a good sized desk for work. It was a quiet room. The bathroom is rather tired. A shower in the bath is really old fashioned (and dangerous) and should be replaced with a shower cubicle. There is an empty room behind the bed - from the seats in it I thought it might be a steam room, but was told it was some type of shower. We did not try to use it, but it is wasted space. The space could be well converted into storage cupboards, a dressing room and place for luggage, The room itself could then be enlarged. Wifi was very slow - it was like being back in the 1990s, it had a very irritating characteristic of requiring the password to be re-entered every day rather than lasting through the whole stay. Like other hotels in Spain, the TV had no international channels (although an English news programme between 19:30 and 20:00) was on the schedule. When modernized this room could deserve the highest praise.

Staid here for three nights while attending the conference. Service at the reception was good but slow both ny check-in and check-out. Rooms are spacious, tidy and clean with a solid bathroom. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice including loval ingredients. Rooftop bar is great with a nice view of the city bit it gets crowded quickly. All together a solid hotel to stay in on a great location close to centre of the city but also Guggenheim and the river (15 min walk).
