The hotel is old and without many modern amenities. It is, however, clean and functional if sparsely furnished The staff appear to be efficient rather than friendly. The room I occupied, (210), was clean and the bed comfortable although the single armchair was tottering on the point of collapse, and the linoleum flooring was antediluvian. The bedroom and bathroom were efficiently cleaned each day. There was absolutely no evidence of insect infestation - and believe me, I checked thoroughly! The shower had to be hand held as the bracket was the wrong size for the shower head and would not hold it. I elected not to have the breakfast in the hotel as there is an (affiliated?) restaurant and cafeteria on the ground floor which served excellent and inexpensive basic meals and tapas; the staff in which were extremely friendly and welcoming. The central heating was only on during certain periods, the timing of which I never actually worked out but appeared to be somewhat random. It could have done with being on for longer and I would have liked to be able to turn it up a little higher, (especially during the daytime as outside temperatures hovered around minus 6c during my stay), but it was not terribly uncomfortable. One just did not have the ability to choose a personally agreeable room temperature. The elevator is miniscule and a trifle aged. There is free wifi, but it did not function in my room or in several others, some on different floors, to which I was given the option of swapping. There is very little room to sit in the foyer where the signal is strong enough, and only two chairs but no coffee table or other free surface on which to work. The location cannot be faulted - within a few minutes walking distance of the major tourist attractions but relatively quiet. Which brings us to the hotel's main selling point - for a functional city centre hotel, the cost is astoundingly low, so one should adjust one's expectations accordingly.

The hotel is very well located, close to the clubs, tapas bars and the touristy parts. The hotel is very basic and I do feel that the staff could be a bit more friendly. Reviews about cockroaches aren't fair, the rooms are clean and I experienced no problems in this way, and the beds were be no means uncomfortable. If you want a good breakfast then I'd suggest walking to a nearby café, because what they provide is awful! It's old and does need updating, but If you want somewhere cheap which will provide you with a good base, then I'd recommend staying here.
