Rick Steves steered us to a great little Hostal in Segovia Hostal Residencia "Don Jamie" Ochoa Ondategui, 8 -Junto Aquducto- Segovia, is nestled on a quiet side street in the very shadow of the famious Roman aqueduct. It's a semi-quaint small hotel, with comfortable rooms, located in a can't be beat location for walk-touring the highlights of Segovia. There's parking available* at a reasonable additional price, and the modest breakfast is free if you mention Rick Steves' Spain guide book, and book direct rather than using a hotel 'bucket' on-line booking site (this has proved pretty much across the board in Spain, and I suspect elsewhere as well). In any case, I don't see how the apps can beat 35€ per night for a clean, comfortable, and charming hotel. The staff were friendly, English-speaking (but willing to tolerate our learning attempts en Espaniol), helpful, and well-informed of their famous cuidad antiqua. There's no elevator, but the stairwell is so spectacular we didn't mind the climb to our 2nd floor (remember, in Europe the 1st floor is the US 2nd floor, so always add one to your anticipated walk-up) room, which faced out onto the narrow cobbled street. We advise sorting through your luggage, carry a minimum for the night, and lock the remainder in your car (* Although there were legal [we think] parking spaces on the street, we chose the additional 8€ secure parking, to avoid loss or a ticket.). The hotel offers free wifi (pronounced 'weefee' in Espaniol), and the signal was good in our room, not always the case, we note. Our hotelier directed us to a tapas bar cum restaurant for dinner, we had a split of the regional white bean soup and salad, but you can just stroll the walking streets and duck into whatever strikes your fancy for a glass of vino and a tapas or two. Later we found that the northern Austrias version of the bean soup has far heartier and mas delicioso ... mucho gusto, Oviedo! Breakfast was minimal, but enough to get going ... nothing like a cup of espresso duo to jump-start you day, and with cafe', toast & jams, muffin, zuma de naranja (orange juice) we were set to go until our mid-day roadside picnic on the road north to Oviedo, Austrias. We will certainly stay at Hostal Residencia "Don Jamie" if we overnight in Segovia again, and fondly recommend the hotel and staff to you, dear reader. Addendum: While we are certainly no experts, we have found the very affordable high plains wines to be quite good. We have gound very palatable vino tinto in the Austrias supermardos for 1,49€ !

“Super little hotel near the aqueduct in Segovia”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hostal Don Jaime. The staff were friendly and the service excellent. The hotel was spotlessly clean and we have no hesitation in recommending it to others. It is well located near to the Aqueduct.

The hotel has the usual clean bedroom and washroom. The bed sheet are average and so is the mattress. The hotel has the usual clean bedroom and washroom. The bed sheet are average and so is the mattress. The price is good for where you are, that is very close to the Roman aqueduct.The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is air-condition in the room, but we did not need it because it was very warm when we were there that month. The only thing the hotel did not have was a elevator, so you had to bring a light load to the hotel and leave the rest in the car. Overall I would return to the hotel due to its location near the old part of the city.

“STILL A GREAT PLACE TO STAY IN SEGOVIA”

Was here six years ago and enjoyed this hotel then. Just spent a night there again last week and can only say that this remains an excellent choice of hotel and only a minute from the Roman aqueduct. Not luxurious, but comfortable, quiet, and welcoming. My room was again in the annex opposite the main building, in the pleasant square with the church of San Justo. The only negative -- and nothing to do with the hotel -- is that access by car is much more difficult now, since the city has introduced a fiendish one-way system and pedestrianized what I knew to be the access. Got there OK in the end, and luckily the hotel has a garage. Advice for anyone in a car is to book the garage, aim for the Plaza de Artilleria, which is front of the aqueduct, and let SatNav do the rest!! Staff are charming, particularly Maria on reception. They will give you the access key to the garage, which is 100 metres away.
