We understand the hotel was recently renovated, and thus, even though the building is old, our room was modern and comfortable. We even had our own rooftop balcony! The owner introduced himself at breakfast and was very helpful in getting us reservations for dinner. The young woman who put out breakfast every morning was very sweet and helpful. The location of the hotel (not far from Plaza Zocodover) was quite convenient.

“Good Location -- A Few Hiccups”

We stayed for three nights at Antidoto. The location is great for seeing the city. We were met by a staff member so we didn't have to manage the process of entering and obtaining a key. The building is a bit tricky to find. As advertised it is not your typical hotel -- some things to be aware of in case you might be uncomfortable -- there is a clear glass door on the toilet room and no door on the shower room. During our stay, there was a problem with wifi access, but, I believe it was working fine when we left.

Our overnight trip to Toledo was last minute and I found the hotel on a comparison website where there weren’t many recent reviews which makes me nervous. The check in process is a bit strange as there is no reception desk at this location HOWEVER communication from the hotel on the run up to the visit was brilliant and they explained the process very clearly. We contacted the hotel when we arrived at the train station and were greeted by Javier who was really friendly and helpful for check in and provided us with great local information about where to visit. The hotel itself is very modern and some of the landing is an inside/outside concept which was really cool. The room was small but great use of space and spotless! The toilet has a glass door and the shower is like a snail shower with no door so depending on who you are travelling with it might be a bit too close for comfort! That said it didn’t cause us and problems and I thought the room was very well finished. Very comfortable bed also with a central location. Worth staying here if you are travelling to Toledo!

A few positives of the hotel: The location is fantastic! Walking distance to everything and a great view from the rooftop. The staff is kind in person but not really around that much. The breakfast is light and delicious and the bed is super cozy. The staff is friendly when you see them. My story and stay at Antidoto: We got married in Toledo in October of 2018. We booked for all of our 20 guests to stay at Antidoto and were so excited to stay at this hotel because it appeared to be so beautiful and the location seemed perfect. Because we booked the entire hotel, the hotel took a deposit for one night’s stay for every room in May of 2019 which amounted to $929 USD. I was hesitant to pay that much money at one time months before we would actually be staying there but ,he said via email multiple times that he would refund the $929 he charged us in May “UPON ARRIVAL". When we arrived, the reception was warm and welcoming. One of our rooms took a bit of time to check in to because they were changing a light but when we entered, it smelled strongly of paint so we wondered if that was also the hold up. Another guest of ours mentioned that her room also smelled strongly of paint so she needed to leave her windows open. Later that day, that same guests said that she was going to stay at another hotel due to black mold covering the ceiling of the shower (pictures shown). Our wedding planner, instead, kindly traded rooms with her in an effort to keep all of us together. He did not give us a refund or even a discount for the room with the black mold. The next day, a sink in one of my other guest’s rooms fell off the wall because it was not bolted appropriately (pictures shown). Anyone that has stayed there can attest that all of the furniture (even the bed) hovers over the floor and is bolted to the wall. While this looks super sleek, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the furniture is secure. There was no human interaction or considerable pressure at all on the sink for it to fall of the wall. This was fixed after our stay and those guests needed to use their shower to wash their hands or brush their teeth. Upon leaving, I checked my bank statement to see if that $929 was refunded as stated. It had not been refunded. Therefore, I reached out to the hotel to see what the hold up was. My initial emails were warm and kind. I even thanked him for just how kind every staff member we encountered was and how comfortable we were during our stay. Since I was newly married, I certainly was so happy and relaxed. He responded by saying that “due to damages” he was not going to refund us. He also made pretty aggressive and rude comments and threatened to take legal action if I posted our experience on travel sites. In his defense, I did tell him that I was going to post our experience because we had a nice stay but our cordial conversation turned south and I did mention that I was going to post the information above on my review as well. He even stated that we should give him more of a break because they had to “clean rooms outside of service hours”. We had the whole hotel booked and everyone was in their hotel rooms getting ready for my wedding. I even asked him months before we arrived if he could clean the rooms on our wedding day a little bit later and he said that would be no problem. He had to clean the rooms after we left for my wedding and decided to throw that in my face as an inconvenience. He also somehow found a problem with keeping my wedding flowers in his fridge. I was clearly upset because these emails were sent to me two days after my wedding. Obviously, we are strongly disputing our fault in the damages he mentions as the sink fell without human interaction with it and the mold certainly was not our fault as it was there when we arrived. He then waited another 12 days to reach out letting us know the cost of the “damages”. I requested receipts and never heard back from him. The reason I waited almost 6 months to post this is because I was disputing the $929 deposit from May with my credit card company and it was recently determined that too much time had passed and there was nothing my card company could do to get my money back. Of the $929 deposit that we paid in May of 2018 for our stay in October of 2018, we got about $350 back. That means he is keeping almost $580 extra that we did not authorize. The $929 was a deposit to simply hold the rooms; NOT so he could walk around the hotel and keep whatever amount he wants based on damages that we didn’t cause. He will likely delete this post but I hope that those of you that can read it are able to make a well-rounded and informed decision about staying here. I’m sure if you just book one or a couple of rooms, you will have an amazing time but I DO NOT suggest booking the entire hotel at one time or, if you do, be aware that you may not get your deposit back.
