Great concept for a hotel. Every member of staff we came across were very friendly and helpful. Would have liked more light in our bedroom but understand it’s part of the mood vibe. Very interesting building and architecture innovatively developed. We were with family and they enjoyed the water park ( extra can combine on booking hotel room). Not always sufficient lifeguards on duty particularly to supervise the slides but the water is warm especially for the toddler pool which is great for little ones. Would recommend if you are wanting something a little bit different. For those who don’t want the water park there is a pool club (extra) but we didn’t visit that.

Having visited before, my expectations were high, as the hotel usually lives up to its hype as a high-end escape. However, our most recent visit—specifically for a birthday celebration—left a significant dent in that reputation. The Dining Experience: High Cost, Low Value While the atmosphere of the restaurant remains unmatched, the culinary execution was a major letdown. For a bill totaling around 2,000 kr, we expected a meal that matched the premium branding of the hotel. Unfortunately, we found the experience to be: Overpriced: The cost did not align with the quality or complexity of the dishes. Small Portions: We left the table feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied. Mediocre Quality: For a "destination" price tag, the flavors were average at best—lacking the "wow" factor necessary for a milestone celebration. Service and Management Response What was perhaps more disappointing than the food was the follow-up. When we shared our concerns with the Guest Excellence Manager (Guest Services), the response felt dismissive. It appeared that management did not consider our experience a "big deal." While they expressed a desire for us to return, the lack of genuine accountability or a service-minded resolution felt hollow. When a hotel brands itself as a destination, it isn't just selling a bed; it’s selling an end-to-end experience where guest satisfaction should be paramount. Seeing that other guests have reported similar issues with the dining value, it seems this is a recurring crack in the Steam Hotel’s gold-standard facade. But a destination is only as good as its hospitality. The combination of an overpriced, underwhelming birthday dinner and a lukewarm response from management makes it hard to justify a return trip. We truly hope the hotel takes this feedback—and the feedback of others—seriously. To maintain a reputation as a top-tier destination, the service and the food need to work as hard as the architecture does.
