Scandic Billingen

“Skøvde”

I always like Scandic hotels but this was my first visit to Skøvde's Billingham. They lived up to my expectation: nice building (from 1880), super friendly staff and wide choice at breakfast. I shall be visiting again next year.

Scandic Hotel is less than five minutes away from the train and bus station. It is conveniently located next to the city's library, museum, and several options for meetup places like cafes, restaurants, and pubs. You can catch a game of shuffleboard or use the co-working space as you await your meeting or your train. The staff is friendly and helpful. Need something? Just ask. They also have a big hall that can accommodate about 100+ people in a round-table dining-style arrangement, and its acoustics are great for a live band.

“Excellent hotel in key location”

The hotel in Skövde is very nice with nice staff. It is close to the train station, and several good restaurants and pubs including the in house restaurant

A truly magnificent building in a premium location. Glancing the beautiful exterior gives me an inspiring feeling of walking around in what remains of a long gone, vastly superior and extraordinary civilization. A truly magnificent building in a premium location. Glancing the beautiful exterior gives me an inspiring feeling of walking around in what remains of a long gone, vastly superior and extraordinary civilization. Before actually staying there as aguest, I thought "the rooms here must be fantastic!". To a certain extent, the hotel has kept this design style in the lobby and breakfast area. The rooms though - not so much. To the contrary actually. It seems like they have gone to lengths to decorate with a style that is as plain and unimaginative as possible. Cheap materials. Large room but not wisely planned. A small, sorry excuse for a desk and an uncomfortable chair with too high legs. The toilet was also hung too high, and placed too close to the shower door. One of the towels had a brown stain on it. No refrigerator, not even a damn shoe horn. A lot of sound leaked in from the corridoor and neighbouring rooms, Id advise you to bring earplugs. The room itself looked like any other mediocre, boring, clueless contemporary western hotel without anything at all that stands out. What a tragically squandered opportunity. Doesn't the management realise what a unique gold mine of a building they have? Seeing the exterior and then the room is such a depressive let down. The only remaining thing of the beautiful past was a black and white picture on the wall that depicted the hotel's gorgeous ball room from the previous century. I never saw it with my own eyes but I do hope it's still preserved and used.
