I booked 20 people from our fife and drum corps at the Set Hotel. Everyone was very complimentary! The location is great! The rooms were very modern and comfortable, and it was nice to have air conditioning with the 95 degree (F) days! A special shout out to the free breakfast, which was actually in the Teufelhof across the street. The food was fresh and delicious, the setting was perfect and the staff were great! I highly recommend this hotel!

Very nice studio apartment with a sofa bed and a regular bed in a separate room but with no door. My two teenage daughters slept in the sofa bed and did not complain, an our bed was comfortable. The wi-fi was good and the shower had good hot water and plenty of pressure. The windows have internal and external blinds, and you'll need to use them as the courtyard side has buildings that can easily see in. We liked the fact that the toilet was in a separate room from the shower, and the washer/dryer worked great. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was great. You get the standard breads and cold cuts and cheeses but you can order eggs and meat with it. Best breakfast we had on our Christmas vacation. The only reason I marked this down was the price. Switzerland is expensive, and I was able to reserve 2 BR, 2 BA apartments and 2 separate studio apartment hotels in France and Germany (and even Amsterdam) at less than what I paid here. The location is great however, literally 5 minutes downhill to the Barfuesserplatz Christmas Market (the best one in Basel). Tram stops right in front of the hotel too.

A luxurious hotel with high standard! Like all other hotels in Basel, this hotel has a high price. I got a luxurious suite and it was really amazing. The apartment was two bathrooms, one living room combined with kitchen and one bedroom. It was perfectly cleaned every day. The breakfast was actually one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had! Even though it wasn’t the biggest, the food was really tasty and you could taste the personality and love they’ve put into it. The egg dishes and bacon were ordered so you get freshly cooked. The location was good, with food street just 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The only thing I can complain about was the insight from other adjacent houses, so be ready to close your curtains.

My partner and I recently stayed in one of the hotel's 'apartment' rooms, and our experience was a study in contrasts, falling significantly short of the 4-star rating the hotel claims. The Positives (Where the stars shine): The hotel staff were universally excellent. Check-in was smooth and friendly, and the staff in the ground-floor café were wonderful. The cafe itself deserves praise, offering genuinely excellent pastries and breads. Inside the room, the bed was comfortable, and the provided toiletries (soap, shampoo, and lotion) were high-quality. They also had a selection of pillows including ergonomic pillows available upon request. The location is likewise wonderful. On a nice street in old town. Easily walkable to shopping, Christmas markets, and transportation. The Design and Vibe: The overall aesthetic felt less "cool and edgy" and more "stark." The hotel has the peculiar charm of East Berlin before the wall came down. Hallways featured bare concrete floors, and our apartment room was a colorless composition of white walls, hardwood floors, and black furniture and cabinetry. The single piece of wall décor—a colorless picture—was literally peeling off its frame. The atmosphere was incredibly austere and lacked any warmth or welcoming features. Major Functional Issues & Maintenance Failures: The primary letdown was the basic functionality and housekeeping. Housekeeping: We had no soap in the kitchen, and the dispenser was only refilled after we resorted to taking it apart and leaving it disassembled on the counter as a clear sign. Replenishing the vanity kit (cotton pads and swabs) was also neglected for days. The same was true for tea replenishment. We had a washer-dryer for which they did leave us an instruction manual in english. However, the functions of the washer did not work the same way the instructions indicated. I do not necessarily fault the hotel for this, as we find the european combo washer/dryer units to always be unnecessarily complicated. Maintenance: A simple repair request—replacing a ripped-off hook on the bathroom door—was refused, with staff stating they "could not" replace it. It appeared to be an easily replaceable 3M sort of removable hook. Towels: The towels provided were thin and small—frankly transparent—which is completely unacceptable for a hotel billing itself at a 4-star luxury level. Technology and Kitchen Woes: The technology in the room was hopelessly outdated. The Wi-Fi was usable but slow in the living area and poor to nonexistent in the bedroom. While the room had two TVs, only the bedroom unit had service; the living area TV could not connect to the satellite for content. Streaming required connecting to an archaic, separate Wi-Fi connection that did not work (because no wifi in the bedroom), highlighting the need for modern technology like Chromecast or Apple Casting. Plus if you have to connect to the wifi on the TV, how do you stream? Furthermore, the kitchen amenities were poorly provisioned. Despite having plenty of forks and knives and plates for a family, we were left with only two small cups and two small drinking glasses. We had to specifically request and explain why we needed an adequate supply of glassware. Finally, the coffee maker was faulty—it leaked constantly. When reported, a staff member came to the room, assured us it worked, and it immediately leaked again after she left. Conclusion: This hotel is a disappointment for the price point and the 4-star claim. While the staff, bakery, and the bed were excellent, the total lack of basic maintenance, severe deficiencies in common room amenities (like glasses and functioning Wifi and tvs), and the stark, unwelcoming design make it difficult to recommend at this tier. Except for the nice toiletries, there was nothing 4-star about this hotel.
