After two flights and three train journeys my wife and I arrived at Wengen train station on 8th June for a 12-night vacation. We were staying for our fourth stay in the Silberhorn Hotel, which is situated across the road from the station. At reception, we were welcomed by Dario, who offered us a cool drink of Prosecco, which was most welcome as we had been travelling for close to twelve hours. With the registration paperwork completed, we were given the keys to our room, 332, which we have stayed in before and love. We had a double bed, two bedside tables, each with a lamp, a double-size wardrobe with plenty of coat hangers, and two armchairs. There is also free wi-fi in all rooms, and a large wall-mounted flat-screen television with many channels. For those travelling from the UK, all the BBC channels are available as well as STV, UTV and ITV. The bathroom was bright with a full-size mirror in front of the hand basin, and there is also a bath and overhead shower. Toiletries are also provided as well as dressing gowns. Outside, on the balcony, is a small table and two chairs. and a beautiful view. From here, we look down and across the Lauterbrunnen valley, and also the snow-capped peaks of the Breithorn and Silberhorn mountains. It is also a place to people watch down on the station as the trains come in and go. I have heard some negative reports on TripAdvisor about the rooms looking a bit worn or tired. I'm sorry, but I can't say that about any of the rooms that I have seen. After unpacking. it was time to go to the restaurant for dinner. We were met at the door by Catalin, who was pleased to see us. We have known him from our two previous seasons. Food, as always, was delicious and filling. I require a gluten-free meal, and when booking my trip with Swiss Holiday Company, they always inform the Hotel of my requirements. So on our first night, Giuseppe, the chef, came out of the kitchen to see my wife and me. We have known Peppe for many years, when we used to holiday in the Belvedere Hotel in Wengen, where he was the chef. Each evening, Peppe would show me what I could or could not have from the menu, and should it not be gluten-free, he would cook it for me, The next day, we returned to our room after a day of hiking. We were pleasantly surprised to find an ice bucket and bottle of Prosecco, which was a present from Delila, the Hotel Reception Manager, for being return customers. Having been there in February. We decided to use the outside jacuzzi to release our aching joints. There is also a second jacuzzi indoors, along with a Fitness Room, Spa, Relaxation Area, and Sauna. That evening, we met Faustina, who was ecstatic at seeing us again after our two previous stays. The Hotel also has an outdoor Terrace, where you can book a table for a Fondue and drinks. During our stay we met the Hotel Manager, Christian Hofgen, who was a real pleasure to talk to. Thanking us for our return visits, asking if everything was ok for us or if he could do anything to help. I did tell him that all of his staff are a credit to the hotel. The ones we already knew from our previous visits were so glad to see us back, while others remembered us. but we did not know their names, and they would stop us in the corridor for a chat. So to Dario, for being so welcoming at reception, Jenny the Dining Room Manager and Anna Marie the Deputy Manager, to Catalin, Faustyna, and Tommy the Servers in the Dining Room, and Gabrielle and Amira who were servers on the Terrace, thank you for your friendliness and professionalism. In the mornings at breakfast, Barbara was on duty most mornings and always made sure my gluten-free rolls were available. Thank you Barbara, To Delila the Reception Manager, you are a real gem, and can sort out any problems before they escalate. We thank you for your kindness, generosity, and friendliness, and for your invitation for Lynn and me to join you and your mum for some refreshments in Wengen. Thank you. Will we return? Yes, we certainly will.

“Fairy tale experience”

We spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. The room was clean with a modern bathroom. We had a balcony overlooking a mountain with goats grazing in the grass. We spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. The room was clean with a modern bathroom. We had a balcony overlooking a mountain with goats grazing in the grass. Loved the patio with a beautiful garden. We enjoyed dinner in their restaurant both nights, and it was outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel. I picked this hotel because it was a 5 minute walk from the train station, they don’t tell you it’s up a steep hill.

“Lovely hotel”

The hotel Has the perfect location for visiting the Jungfrau region. The town is almost traffic free, just the odd utility or hotel shuttle to look out for. The hotel Has the perfect location for visiting the Jungfrau region. The town is almost traffic free, just the odd utility or hotel shuttle to look out for. Or cows at the weekend if the farmers herd them through. Breakfast is standard European , lots of heathy items and a few naughty items. We had half board , the even meal was usually two main options. Sounds limiting but oh the quality. Probably some of the best hotel food in years Room was a tad noisy, we faced the railway, but due to the unusual heat wave we had to have the doors and windows open. Staff, lovely. Room nice but a bit dusty.

We know Wengen and think it's a simply wonderful location - it's much quieter than Grindelwald and the railways and Männlichen cable cars are very efficient. It's possible very quickly to have some of the most spectacular mountain views in the world. The Silberhorn Hotel is immediately beside the railway station. That's a benefit, especially for older people. Reviews say that the decor of the hotel is 'tired' but that didn't diminish our enjoyment and we spent 8 nights there. We had a room with a balcony and a Jungfrau view - this was an excellent buy. Breakfast is a well-stocked and efficiently-run buffet. An advantage is that breakfast remains open until 10.30. We bought the Jungfrau Travel Pass - a real bargain and immensely useful. I also recommend the Swiss train app SBB Mobile - very useful for getting to Wengen. We'd go back - actually, 4 generations of my family have stayed here.
