Only downside for me as a fitness freak was the gym. It was stiffingly hot, no aircon and no dumbells! Other than that a great hotel with fabulous views.

The Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère was established very early in the Belle Epo era and led the way for health tourism as wealthy Brits and other European aristocrats decamped for three month stays to breath the fresh mountain air. It with this charming history that we recently fulfilled our bucket list wish and stayed here. These are our thoughts on our two night stay. The hotel is located in world famous Davos, a town that grabs the world's spotlight every January with coverage of the annual World Economic Forum. The rest of the time, Davos is a quiet alpine town with largely deserted streets outside of the winter season. It was in this quiet phase that we stayed at the Grandhotel Belvédère in June, and the serenity was a misanthropes dream come true. The hotel had just reopened for the summer season and there were mostly small groups of pensioners as guests. This was all Ok as far as we were concerned, as a quiet grand hotel makes for a peaceful stay, We were greeted by the affable Helena at reception. The room we were allocated was a good size with everything one could need, though it must be said, rather dated and in need of renovation. The hotel bar/lounge area is where the hotel stars. A wonderful space with many Belle Epoque features still in place, and a grand fire place that dates back to 1875. We were greatly impressed by Yiannis who was always monitoring us to ensure we were comfortable and to take our drink and coffee orders. Yiannis is a charming young man who was always happy to engage and offer his expert knowledge on all questions asked about various beverages. It was in the bar we also met Benadikt, who appears to be the director of the bar and restaurants. Also a charming engaging man who clearly loves his work. We dealt with a lovely Thai (?) lady at breakfast on one of the days who was fantastic and an equally charming lady the next day, I regret not remembering their names to properly give them their due for their efforts. They were both fantastic. We unfortunately did not get to use the sauna or the pool, regrettably, but they are housed in an impressive building that is a continuation of the hotel building. Overall impression? Whilst we enjoyed our stay and the professionalism of the staff cannot be called into question, the hotel does require investment to bring it up to the standard befitting its Belle Epoque hey day. A high class renovation would do wonders to restore its place in the pantheon of the very best Swiss palace hotels. We will return, but not before the above is addressed and the hotel is once again the best in its class.

We booked with Titan for a week in the area. This hotel was really great. Lucky to have a room with an amazing view. We booked with Titan for a week in the area. This hotel was really great. Lucky to have a room with an amazing view. Shout out to Alina in reception who was beyond helpful with information on our free days. Room was spacious and very clean. Excellent breakfasts. We had a couple of group dinners which we enjoyed. We were given a card on arrival which gave us free bus travel and discounts on mountain lifts etc. which was very useful. My only little gripe was one evening ordered a glass of house wine at the bar (8 Swiss Francs). Next evening ordered same with a different person and given a smaller amount of wine for 11 Swiss Francs. Tried to explain but didn't get anywhere.
