The Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina was one of my favorite hotel stays in years. I'm already looking forward to coming back. We stayed in a Kronenhof Suite, and I would highly recommend it. The room was beautifully designed—elegant yet incredibly inviting. Every detail felt thoughtful. After long days of hiking, the bed was unbelievably comfortable. Like many hotels in the region, there is no air conditioning, but it wasn't an issue. The large windows and doors open wide, and once they're open, it feels like you're stepping into a painting. Our room overlooked a rushing mountain stream with a lush green forest beyond and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Falling asleep to the sound of the water each night was unforgettable. I also loved the leather-covered bar cabinet and the fireplace, which made the room feel cozy in the evenings. The service was exceptional throughout our stay. The front desk team consistently went above and beyond, helping us with last-minute reservation changes, recommending hikes, restaurants, and excursions, reminding us to bring umbrellas when rain was possible, and even offering us bottled water before we headed out on long hikes. They also provide complimentary transportation to and from the train station in a beautiful vehicle, making arrival and departure effortless. The hotel's history is another reason it's so special. Historic photographs displayed in the elevators and a booklet in the room tell the story of the property, and the entire hotel feels rich with character and tradition. The grand lobby, historic architecture, and elegant bar create a wonderful atmosphere, especially in the evenings when a live pianist performs. Breakfast was good, with a variety of options in a historic dining room. It wasn't quite at the same exceptional level as the rest of the hotel—service was a bit slow at times, some items weren't always replenished promptly, and the staff seemed a little rushed. The spa exceeded our expectations. While it has a more classic European style than a modern luxury spa, it was impeccably maintained and relaxing. There are multiple saunas and steam rooms, a large indoor pool overlooking the stream, complimentary teas, and one of the most unique relaxation rooms I've experienced. The sound bath room was especially memorable—you float in warm water with your head and feet supported, and once your ears slip beneath the surface, gentle music surrounds you while soft lighting creates a peaceful experience. I'm still thinking about it. During our visit, the town was hosting a local festival, and the hotel embraced it by setting up food, live music, and even a bounce house for children. It was a wonderful reminder that this is a hotel deeply connected to its local community rather than catering to tourists. The location is also ideal, with beautiful hiking trails and mountain adventures just minutes away. Very few hotels leave me wanting to plan another trip before I've even checked out. The Grand Hotel Kronenhof is one of them, and I can't wait to return.
