“Amazing Matterhorn view”

We stayed at Antare for a few days after finishing Walker’s Haute Route hike and we had great time there. The hotel is in a quieter area but with walking distance to Zermatt town center. “Skiing Zermatt”

Hotel Antares is an older but well kept hotel. I'm a little hesitant about endorsing it too much as the prices will go up, and I wont be able to reserve a room next year, but It's ahead of many US hotels that are on ski areas... It is about a EU20 (+?) cab ride from the train station (Banhoffstrasse). Or if you have a few minutes, a free bus ride from the train station. One of the Zermatt routes goes right past the hotel. You can walk, but its maybe a 1/2 mile. More importantly, it is 132 human steps from the Matterhorn express gondola. If you are a skier this is pretty important especially at days end when you're tired. So, it takes 1 minute and 30 seconds to get to the lift. Only hotel Zurbriggin is closer I think. There is also a ski run that ends at the bus stop across the river and an elevator nearby that gets you up from the river (the Zen Steckenstrasse) to Schluhmattstrasse. Its super easy. Hotel Antares has a ski room with boot dryers - a nice feature - tho they were not working at the time I was there. It also has a really nice sauna with Steam room and heated beds. There are also 2 jacuzzis. This is a very nice feature. I think its only open from 4 to 7. The hotel room I had was nice. It was not large but it was comfortable. There was no refrigerator but all my cold stuff went outside on the balcony. Great views on one side of the town and on the other of the Matterhorn itself. The food must be mentioned. The breakfast was as good as you'll get anywhere almost without regard to cost. A bunch of super Italians from Salerno run the kitchen and everything from the Cappuccino to the smoked Salmon was over the top. Gaetano and his crew has to get credit here. The food was delightful and there was so much great cheese and meats and breads and juices. I wish I took a photo. Samuel and Robin and Lucie will help you with anything they can and are quite accommodating. I'll be back to Hotel Antares... Its just got too much going for it. SKIING Also, note: if you wish to go up to Gornergrat, take the matterhorn express. I think its faster. Go to the 1st station - Furi, and get off. Take a short walk (100'?) to the Gondola to Riffleburg and at the second segment you're in Riffelberg. Ski there for a bit and then if you need sun, go to down to Gant and take the chair to Blauherd. That's in the middle of Sunnega. And at the end of the day, ski to the bottom of Sunnega. You can take the #1 trail down - its a red trail with a particularly icy pitch so if you are not So many people talk about the restaurants in Zermatt and make comments, such as, if you are too far away from town the restaurants are far. I did not find this to be the case. Put on some running shoes and walk 10 minutes into town. Its not that far. AND EVERYONE WALKS THERE. There are no cars in the conventional sense. These are all electric cars and not too many of them. There are many restaurants in town and surrounding areas. ITALY. You can buy a pass (apparently) for Cervinia. But if you ski on the IKON pass, Cervinia is not on the pass. However for EU35 you can still get back to Zermatt - so long as you do it before 2:00 or so. Dont chance it. Leave early, or you'll be sleeping in Cervinia for the night. Overall, this is a superb/spectacular ski area.

“Matterhorn views”

Had a view of the Matterhorn on balcony which was amazing but roof obstructed it so had to sit on side but still amazing to have. Room does not have AC so was a bit hot when I was there. Nothing can beat that. Antare also offers complimentary breakfast with varieties of food, and that was huge to us after 10 days hiking in the ALPS. The staff at the front desk was super nice and allowed us to store our luggage there before check in time.

On 23 January 2020, the new Balearic Law against Tourism Excesses entered into force, which prohibits all-inclusive deals with unlimited alcoholic beverages. Only a maximum of three alcoholic beverages per guest will be served during lunch and/or dinner.
