Stayed at Hotel Alpena two nights but the bookings were made separately and I booked across two different platforms. The first night I booked a solo or single room with bathroom and it wasn’t very good. I needed to book a second night but I could only get a shared bathroom single room… This was slightly more expensive for some reason, but it was so much better than the room w bathroom. The shared bathroom room had a sink it anyway, was clean bright airy and connected to a balcony with a fantastic view. The bed was also comfortable. All of these things I didn’t find in the solo room with bathroom (uncomfortable bed, dingy room, needing renovation) . Staff were very accommodating and helpful. There was an issue with the door in the modern (shared bathroom) rooms these rooms have a button on the inside of the handle if you press that button in and leave the room it disables the key card or key fob and you will not be able to re-enter. There was no information about this in the room. Even house keeping were unaware when I shared this with them, the next day. So I locked myself out at 9:15 pm, and this was highly problematic as reception leave at 9 pm! In the end the guy in the room next door kindly let me into his room to enter the shared balcony and then climbed into my room through the window I’d left open! I’d stay again… but if booking a single room would only book shared bathroom knowing what I know now.

Hotel rooms in Zermatt are super expensive due to high demanding in this popular tourist destination. We prepared the worst, but were happy with the convenient location, friendly check-in and check-out, the clean wooden floor, fully functional bathroom, 25-CHF per person buffet breakfast with the review of Matterhorn! With the rate they offered, the only thing we would expect to improve is to use a littler thicker bed sheet cover so one won't see the mattress beneath.

“Affordable But Not Sound Proof”

Booked this hotel since it was the most affordable room with private bathroom. Small room was okay and bathroom looked fairly new. Booked this hotel since it was the most affordable room with private bathroom. Small room was okay and bathroom looked fairly new. Bed and comforter are comfortable but pillow so thin it felt nonexistent. No fridge in room and walls paper thin so can hear other guests talking in their rooms and hallway. I even heard guy next room snoring. Reception is in other hotel next door. Location was good though as main tourist street just 2 minutes walk. Would suggest spend a bit more somewhere else because of sound issue.
