Hotel Continental ticked all our boxes for a great city break. Located a stones throw from Lausanne Station. Greeted by Jorge on reception - so helpful and polite. The room was a good size with all the usual amenities. We made great use of the ‘free’ travel pass- use on Metro and buses to explore the city - from Top to Bottom! So handy being next to Metro Entrance. Only minus being that our room overlooked the square outside the station- can be a bit noisy - bring earplugs or ask for a room at the rear. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here or recommend to anyone wanting a great hotel at very reasonable prices. Special thanks to Jorge.

“Great position, good value for money.”

Great position, directly opposite the train station and 2 doors away from the metro. Fantastic service at check in from Gabriel, providing excellent advice on points of interest and even recommended a couple of nice restaurants. Great position, directly opposite the train station and 2 doors away from the metro. Fantastic service at check in from Gabriel, providing excellent advice on points of interest and even recommended a couple of nice restaurants. Other reception staff were also very helpful and friendly, Always with a hello or goodbye as you arrived or left. Looking at a few other reviews I was a little wary, Yes the pillows were like two sheets of tissue paper. But a chat with reception provided a stack of 4 pillows, without any drama. The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast at 25CHF was a bit pricey, but lots of options close by, a pleasant cafe beside reception, Starbucks next door and MacDonalds beside that, plus other venues in the train station. While not the Ritz, this is a value for money mid range hotel and I would stay there again next time in Lausanne.

“Noisy and poor climate control”

A bit of a mixed bag, location is very good for the main station and metro but it's also on a noisy road (to be expected given the location) which was compounded by major building work going on among the whole front of the station, starting at 7am.  Also being across from the station the taxi rank was in front of the hotel where the drivers chatted loudly into the small hours. The hotel soundproofing is pretty good when the windows are shut tight, but the noise from outside still penetrated. Bring your earplugs.  The next issue is the air conditioning, although there is a control in the room, sometimes it said it is being centrally controlled and sometimes it let you set a target temp, although not very low I think 22c was the lowest. This meant that with the windows shut to keep the noise out that the room could get far too warm, but it seemed a bit erratic. The room itself was good, decent size, two chairs, separate duvets, nice linens, even UK channels on the TV. The place was a bit tired though and the lighting was awful. The bathroom was OK, clean enough, the shower was a bit tight one way, but plenty of hot water. The staff at the front desk were all very nice and professional. Housekeeping quality was questionable as we found an half eaten pizza in a box left on a shelf in the wardrobe area. It's very convenient if you are travelling by train but given the works opposite I can't really recommend this hotel.
