We visited the EDA Skylark Hotel In Kaohsiung for a short trip on the recommendation of a friend. We were pleasantly surprised to find this “hidden gem” which is located around 20mins from the airport. Our room was spacious and comfortable and their buffet breakfast spread had a huge variety of local and western items. It took us 2 mornings to try out most of their delicious spread. Buffet lunch and dinner are also available. Staff were courteous, warm and professional. The surrounding area is self sustaining with a huge Outlet Mall for shopping and a Theme Park for kids located all in the same area reachable by walking distance. You can also take their free shuttle buses connecting guests to various interesting places including the famous Fu Guang Shan Buddhist memorial center. We had a very enjoyable and relaxed stay there. Highly recommended if you are looking for an all-in-one holiday to enjoy.

This hotel is a little bit outside Kaoshiung, ~30min by shuttle bus. There are frequent shuttle bus to the Kaoshiung Center or the HSR train station for a small fee. It is located next to the outlet mall building A with the ferris wheel. Depending on the time, the shuttle bus will stop directly at the front doors of the hotel. The check-in was smooth and we also got a free ride ticket for the ferris wheel as well. We were located at the 3rd floor, so not really a view outside the window. The room had all its necessary and was clean. There was a small couch table and two armcharis as well. The beds were comfortable in our oppinion. There was no free Wi-Fi as far as we knew and the TV program could have had a better quality than SD. The bathroom was equipped with a shower and a bathtub. The employers told us, that there was also a water dispenser on the floor, really useful and no need to buy extra water! The breakfast buffet was decent. It was a mix of western and european style breakfast - nothing special. The outlet mall has three buildings with a lot of stores to shop, and also a lot of restaurants. There is also a movie theater and the "highlight" might be the free ride of the ferris wheel. Therefore a lot of time can be spent on this alone. We didn't went to the theme park. In the end, it was a convienient stay. For people who are considering to do a lot in Kaoshiung maybe this may not be the best choice. However, if you are not afraid of time frame of the shuttle bus, the hotel is defitnetly worth considering.

Eda Skylark is conveniently located next to the outlet and theme mark. They try to sell themselves as a premium product but it's all surface level once you look closely the place like some of its surrounds needs a bit of attention. Reception staff are plentiful and professional. Some of the kitchen staff not so much, I inquired about having a look inside the buffet and the response was "are you a guest here". Considering you can purchase a buffet entry as a non-guests what difference does it make? Staff in the restaurant are really hit and miss, the older local ones are great, top service. Some of the newer staff not so much, for example wasting time, not cleaning tables properly, not being efficient or doing lazy tasks like taking signs off the buffet 30 minutes before closing so nobody actually knows what they're eating if they come late are clear examples. The resort overall looks great but some of it is starting to fall apart a bit. I do recommend the facilities for children having both an indoor and outdoor area. The rest of the resort looks good at first glance. The room had a layer of dust in some places, mould in the bathrooms and really dirty looking worn carpets in the hallways. It's not a good look for a hotel that presents itself as a premium product and charges accordingly. I also had issues with pests in the room despite not having any food on me. It's a shame as the place obviously started so well with potential but I guess like the nearby abandoned buildings it probably isn't close to capacity so they're just making do with what they can. For the price I paid it was a bit disappointing.

We stayed here for a family trip with three little ones and grandparents in October. We booked two rooms through phone reservation for one night. Staff on the phone was friendly and the process was easy. We took the high speed rail to Kaohsiung and got on the shuttle bus to the hotel, which was pretty straight forward and fast. Unfortunately, our first impression of the hotel was its strong moldy smell. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, same with all the staff we've met along the hallways and at the hotel restaurant. The promotion for grandparents' room came with two meals, dinner and breakfast. We found the breakfast buffet selection good, even for vegetarians there was more than enough to pick from. For the dinner though, grandparents were a bit disappointed with their vegetarian meal. The restaurant staff was very nice and accommodating trying to customize the meal, while they brought out a lot of food, it was lacking quality. Vegetarian meal is something the restaurant definitely needs to look into improving. The hotel overall is nice, but for a 4 star hotel, the moldy smell, moldy spots in the room, as well as the strong sewage smell inside the lobby washroom, all should really be dealt with.
