Indifferent to EVA airlines, Evergreen hotel is superbly managed. Rooms are modern, clean and very well maintained, staff are VERY well trained and attentive (super kudos to them). The buffet breakfast far exceeded my expectations. Right across the street from the southern palace museum and 5 minutes from the Chiayi HSR station - this hotel is fantastic for family holiday. If holding an event here I would say would be very good as well. The only downside is it’s not in a metropolitan area, so there’s nothing else to really see or do here other than the palace museum.

We found the hotel to be clean and nice, to jump to a five star category would require a much higher level of detail and attention to assist guests. We arrived early and were told check-in was not available till 4 PM so we had five hours before the room was available, I have been traveling already for 24 hours and there was no consideration for shower, access, clean area or change of clothes. This is a difficult location to get a taxi is there is no taxi stand nearby and it needs to be clear that it’s a 30 minute taxi ride into city Central. The location near the museum is excellent. Please be aware the museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays and those are the two days we were staying at the hotel unfortunately since this was not clear from my reservation homework. It happened to be Super Bowl Sunday and there was no access to Super Bowl on any of the channels.

This hotel is three years old with state-of-the-art facility and amenities. "Evergreen" positions itself as ultra-luxury hotel in Taiwan, aiming to obtain global 5-star hotel certification. As of this writing, this hotel is in the process of obtaining this 5-star certification. What I liked: - Location: right across from National Palace Museum Southern Branch in Chiayi, 15-minute drive from Chiayi High Speed Rail Station. My main goal was to visit National Palace Museum Southern Branch, which makes this hotel competitive. - The view: you can see the entire National Palace Museum Souther Branch Complex (the building + surrounding park) from this hotel - Complimentary shuttle service between the hotel and Chiayi High Speed Rail Station: please contact the hotel for more details as frequency and hour are subject to change - It has everything that a top-notch hotel needs to have and be able to provide. In other words, the "hardware" is well equipped. - Buffet restaurant offers wide variety of food from western style to Asian and Taiwanese style. Food was fresh. - All is spacious from lobby, hallway, and rooms. - When issues or situations occurred, the entire team collectively step up to solve regardless whose responsibility it was. They were responsive. For example, there was a hair found behind the toilet seat in the assigned hotel room. The staff took care of it immediately. - Professional and courteous attitude for most staff (98%) - The hotel has a concierge service. They listened, followed and executed instructions well. What I don't like: - There was a long hair found on the sink in a public toilet next to the main lobby - There was a hair found behind the toilet seat in the assigned hotel room. Despite of this, the housekeeping still did a great job in cleaning the room, making everything clean and neat in all other corners and hidden spots. - A receptionist at the restaurant could have received more coaching on how to say and communicate in a more effective and appropriate manner, as well as overcoming bias and avoid message being interpreted differently. - Some bowls and dining utensil weren't washed cleanly - Multiple buffet counter surfaces looked messy and unclean during busy dining hours Other items: - The hot shower temperature was set at 49C which wasn't idea for me. The hotel and I discussed about this in advance before I made the reservation. While I wish the temperature could be higher, but I appreciate their disclosure on what they could and couldn't do. For one night, it's manageable. If it's more than one night, I would not have stayed here unless the hot water temperature can be adjusted up. - The hotel is "smart" equipped where you can use AI-activate voice recognition and command to get things done directly from your room. I tried it; however, the voice command did not work as well. Touchscreen, on the other hand, was easy to use. - If you are looking for a nice hotel to relax and enjoy its facility, this hotel can be a good option, especially you can also walk across street to visit the park of National Palace Museum Southern Branch or the museum itself. The hotel has facilities that can keep all ages entertained including a "paid sauna", a children play zone, a pool, a gym, etc. - Compared to other luxury hotels in Taiwan, the price/value of this hotel is more affordable. - There is a 7-11 convenience store right across the street. - My experience in this hotel wasn't five stars as they had intended. It's more like a 4 or 4.5 out of 5. I haven't seen what really sets them apart or made them a 5-star hotel based on items listed under "What I don't like" category above. They still have room to grow before earning the desired 5-star rating. Maybe they will eventually get there someday.

We stayed 2nts in a two double bed room facing the National Palace Museum. The room was cosy and not tight but definitely not spacious. The hotel newly opened in the last year and feels fresh, bright and clean. We enjoyed a quick lunch in the lobby cafe, their lobby bar opens until about 11pm where you can relax with a drink and catchup on any work. We ate at the dinner buffet which had a variety of options but mostly asian cuisine and the quality and taste were just ok. It would be good if there was more focus on special cuisines from Chiayi for example turkey rice. It was a tiny bowl of dried looking turkey on offer. Because the hotel is in a currently remote area we have to travel to try a turkey rice, the hotel could offer a good turkey rice as part of their buffet. A car is ideal if staying at this hotel. We drove 20-30mins into Chiayi town for night markets, turkey rice and some tourist sights like the Alishan train museum. About 5min walk behind the hotel is a family run local breakfast place with outdoor seating. It was certainly a convenient walk across the road to visit the National Palace Museum, 2min drive to the old Sugar Factory and not far from the hwy exit. My kids enjoyed the play room and we would certainly stay again next time we visit Chiayi. We hope that this hotel can maintain it’s level of cleanliness as the years go by.
