We stayed three nights at the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel as part of a wedding celebration held at the hotel itself. Our room was located on the 26th floor and was very nice, very spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The hotel also offers extensive facilities, including a large and special spa, indoor pool, and gym. My wife also used the hair salon services, which she appreciated. In-room dining eventually worked, although only after a few language-related misunderstandings. Breakfast was generous, with a wide selection. However, one issue was very disappointing: for our deluxe double room occupied by two people, only one breakfast was included. What I initially assumed was an obvious mistake turned out to be intentional, justified at reception as part of the “special rate” for wedding guests. The whole situation still left a bitter aftertaste. It felt as though the discount was simply recovered through the back door. In our opinion, this is not worthy of a five-star hotel, and it is something we have never experienced anywhere else in the world. Overall, this is a very modern hotel with large rooms and excellent facilities. But please treat your guests in a true five-star manner.

I stayed three nights at the Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel. The hotel is very modern and directly connected to a large shopping mall, which is quite convenient. The rooms are a real highlight—very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The overall design feels new and well maintained. The hotel offers extensive facilities, including a large spa, indoor pool, and gym. However, I was surprised that the gym is not open 24 hours, which I would normally expect at a hotel of this level. The executive lounge is also quite large, with a good and varied offering during happy hour. Breakfast is generous with a wide selection. Service was generally efficient, though at times a bit lacking in warmth. My arrival experience stood out: I arrived around 10:30am, fully aware that it was too early for check-in and planning to leave my luggage before heading out. However, before even being greeted, I was told that it was too early to check in. While this was technically correct, it felt somewhat abrupt and not in line with the usual hospitality standards. After I clarified, the interaction became friendlier, but the first impression was not ideal. As a Bonvoy Titanium member, no upgrade was offered or mentioned. This is fine—I usually book the room category I want—but it’s worth noting so expectations are aligned. Overall, this is a very modern hotel with large rooms and strong facilities. With a bit more attention to service tone and guest interaction, it could offer a more complete experience.

“Cozy Stay”

Stayed for 2 nights during our first trip to Kaohsiung. Spacious and cozy room. Located next to a mall. Overall, a good stay.

The Kaohsiung Marriott Hotel building and rooms looked modern and clean; but some of the staff here seemed indifferent which is pretty unusual for the hotel properties in Asia. We had a two night stay here at the end of March and felt it wasn't a very good stay compared to all the other Marriott properties we've stayed at in Asia. We regret not checking the newer Amnis property or the IHG's Intercontinental or Indigo now. Husband is a Lifetime Titanium in Marriott and also has Hyatt's Globalist, Hilton Diamond, and IHG Platinum from work travel stays. We really enjoy staying at the Marriott properties in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and Indonesia with the super helpful, warm, and kind service from the staff. The Kaohsiung Marriott stay was a big disappointment. We actually said that some of the staff at the Kaohsiung Marriott seemed like they had the attitude and service of a few US Marriott properties! They weren't mean, but didn't really seem to care. No real warmth was the general feeling we got while staying here, which is completely different from the other Taiwan hotels and Asia properties we've stayed at. The Club Lounge was even a bit of a disappointment here. The evening cocktails and appetizers and breakfast were just ok, nothing really great compared to the other Marriott or Hyatt lounges. We even paid an extra $100 ($50 per day) to have our daughter be able to use the lounge since Marriott policy is one guest per Platinum or Titanium member. We and our daughter felt that after the first day, it wasn't worth it and she wanted to eat outside the hotel instead. So we did request a refund for the second day, since she didn't use the breakfast and Club Lounge. We asked the Club Lounge desk politely and nicely and she made a phone call. After a minute she finished the call and told us the refund was approved, but she didn't ask or make any other comments which is what the other hotels would usually ask what they could do to improve or even an apology. We felt that we were almost bothering her by asking. The location is good, connected to a luxury mall and there's a Costco right next to the hotel. The hotel building, lobby, common areas are all nice. Rooms were clean and modern. Not sure if these employees were having an off day. However this stay at the Kaoshiung Marriott was not very good for us because the employees and the service just lacked the usual warmth and left a somewhat negative impression. Location and facilities are four stars but indifferent service from a few almost makes it a three star. When we return to Kaohsiung, we would consider staying elsewhere.
