We stayed here 2 nights in April 2026 in a Corner Suite. This is a very nice and spacious suite with a Western style sitting room (with separate toilet), a Japanese sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom with 2 sinks, bath, separate shower and separate toilet. The room has airconditioning, two televisions, a minibar, a Nespresso coffee machine, another coffeemaker, a watercooker and also a machine with an unknown purpose because all instructions were in Chinese (dehumidifier maybe?) The hotel has water dispensers where you can (without any charge) refill your bottles with drinking water. The bed and WiFi are excellent. The hotel offers a choice of different pillows. Lighting everywhere is very good and easy to operate. The shower is good. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool and 2 restaurants for breakfast: a Western buffet and a Chinese one. We went to the Western one but were disappointed that at least half of the dishes were Asian. The many staff members are all very friendly and helpful.

“Large, new, and modern, but rooms could still be improved”

We were a family of nine and stayed in Silks Place in Tainan for three nights. The hotel is well-situated, right beside the huge Japanese department store Mitsubishi. There were also several 7-11s and Family Marts within a stone's throw. The rooms are very 'sparse modern' in furnishings. There are two drop lamps on each side of the bed which unfortunately did not throw enough light to facilitate bedside reading. The wall above the headboard is plain wood - no art piece. The wall opposite has a smallish TV and nothing else. The night tables are big blocks of wood with no drawers. And there are no electric plugs anywhere near the bedsides. The windows are from ceiling to two feet above the floor - good enough, with decent blackout curtains. a very long sofa stretches the length of the window. Unfortunately, the seat length is too long so you couldn't sit back properly and only throw pillows provide back support. In front of the bed is a long low versatile platform, where you can place anything. There is one plug at the end of this wooden ledge and somewhere in the center of it so at least there were two plugs we could use but not well-positioned. The floor at the entrance is ceramic tile then wooden tiles in the bed area. The ceramic tiles continue into the T&B. There is a table-ledge beside the wash basin which my wife appreciated since she had space to put her cosmetic items. We also appreciated that the shower and toilet had separate stalls. There was also a tub. Unfortunately, the toilet stall had no door so it was awkward if someone was using the toilet and another was using the washbasin. It would have been very easy to put a glass door. There were two sliding wall panels - one to close off the bedroom area from the foyer and the T&B. The other, perpendicular to the first, was to also close of the T&B completely if the first panel was slid forward a bit. The room had a version of Hey Google and Alexa. You had to say Hello AI. Cute. But it had limits - ex, it could up or lower the temperature but couldn't turn of or on the ac. Still, a very good experiment. You could take breakfast in two places - the 4th floor place had HK style buffet while the ground floor one served Western style. We never went to the 4th floor since we found the ground floor outlet quite extensive with its menu, offering a lot of Asian cuisine as well. Our only complaints would be - tables too close to each other, e.g., 6 inches between tables for two, no egg station, and you got coffee for yourself. But the variety was extensive. The lobby is huge, with a very high ceiling. The elevators are nicely designed, with a bamboo motif for the walls. They had paper cache pigs and warthogs all over the place as their decor theme - not sure if they change the theme ever so often.

“Although it felt like 3*, the property was 4*”

We came here expecting a luxurious experience given the high price of our Jr suite. While the room itself was very nice (especially the large double soaking tub, separate large living room, comfortable bed and linens, free minibar, etc), they put us in the “Teddy Bear” wing of the floor. This means our suite felt like we were living in a “giant nursery school”, with giant smiling bears on every wall, bright childish colors on wall murals with the bear theme, even in the dam bathroom area I think these garish creatures were there. It was so off-putting and cheapened the entire experience of having a beautiful suite to ourselves. I complained to the front desk upon checkout just so they would inform people before they assign such an inappropriate space like that. I wish we had refused the suite the day prior and got another. However we were so tired when we arrived we just plopped on the bed for a quick nap. After that we didn’t feel like moving. This is often the case, we rarely ask for another room. So while the experience was 3*, I put 4* because the property itself was nice and the suite itself was spacious.

“A lot to recommend it!”

I stayed for three nights in a deluxe room with a king bed, and loved the huge amount of space and attractive decor. There were interesting ornaments with historical connections, a nice long lounge by the window, a pleasant city view, wall TV, a good-sized table and comfortable chair. I much appreciated the coffee capsule machine, and there was also a smaller "mini rotated coffee maker". There were reading lamps and charger slots in the bedhead. Useful shelving, good clothes hanging space and a safe. A full-length mirror. The adjustable air conditioning was very efficient and Wi-Fi worked well. Housekeeping was excellent. The staff were very good, helpful and attentive. An issue with leaking adjacent to one of the bathroom mirror lamps was attended to and turned out not to be a drama as it wasn't affecting the electricals. There was a big bath with a separate shower and toilet. The toilet didn't have its own door which might worry some couples. Water pressure was good. There was a warning that the bath could be slippery - like all baths can be, and a bath rail would be a useful addition. Also, I had to use the hand wash from the sink for bathing. There wasn't anywhere to hang wet clothes. And because the sink cabinet was right next to the bath, it wasn't easy to remove the bathplug after getting out of the bath. The doors between the bed/lounge area and the "kitchen"/bathroom/lobby area could be closed, which was good as the latter area had some sort of machine humming all night. I didn't really use the AI friend, and perhaps that was where the "Do Not Disturb" worked from as there wasn't anything to put on the door or switch on. One morning I had a late breakfast and the housekeeping staff member knocked on the door soon after I returned - if I'd been any later we would've run into each other. There were gorgeous lifesize paper mâché statues of a wild boar and sow near the lifts on my floor, and a boar family downstairs, with other installations include cute bear football supporters. I also liked the illustrated historical wall displays. The breakfasts were delicious, and room service meals were good. There was also a great cake shop offering guest discounts. There was a range of complimentary items - water x 2, a Pocari drink, the best sparkling tea, sweet slices and face masks. For use in the room there were booklets and pamphlets about Tainan, and I was given a good city map. The hotel is well-located, very close to the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi shopping centre, with lots of sights and eateries within walking distance, such as the Blueprint Culture and Creative Park, Tainan City Museum, Snail Alley and Tainan Art Gallery. I also walked to the historical Hayashi Department Stores and Tainan Confucius Temple. Buses and taxis were available nearby/outside.
