In April 2010, my wonderful friend Helen and her amazing husband-to-be Billy brought Vikkie and me to the National Centre for Traditional Arts in Yilan . I was so impressed by this Centre that I knew I would visit it again, although it has taken me 8 years to materialise this plan. It felt great to revisit like a long lost friend. Literally next store to the National Centre is the new Dancewood Resort which was officially opened on 16 March 2018. It is the first resort in Taiwan with a Japanese Garden as its main theme. When Lo Kung and I arrived there, the beautiful flowers to mark the resort’s opening were overwhelming. A staff member showed us the room with complimentary fruit & a variety of drinks. He patiently went through the high-tech switches for the lights and air-conditioning & the Japanese style robes & slippers for the hot-spring & dinner. We had a room with an amazing seaview. My husband and I toured the hot springs for men and women separately. A member of the staff was keeping a child guest company with a story-book who took photos for us. There were steam rooms and sauna rooms. The cosmetic room was well-equipped with all the necessary toiletries. Bianca at the reception had a most charming smile and drove us to the Japanese restaurant by a buggy. The dinner was lovely. We pre-ordered a Japanese set-dinner with a special order for sea urchin that the hotel arranged it at our request which was very yummy & was only 1 third of the price in HK👍🏻. Ah Man drove us back to the main building after dinner. When I realised I left my handbag in the restaurant, Bianca was already outside of the main building and said to us that they would return the bag to me. Ah Man went straight back to collect it for me promptly even though she has finished her work of the day and lives 30-minutes away from the resort. Breakfast is offered with the choice of either Western or Japanese style. Since my husband and I try to cut down carbohydrate, we asked them to give us only a portion of the bread but Mandy kindly offered to pack it for us so that we may have it on the way when we feel hungry. My husband loves the honey-lemon juice. When I saw my favourite raspberry sorbet in the Hagen-Daz ice-cream chest in the cafe for breakfast, Mandy kindly offered me a scoop which was greatly appreciated even though I only have icecream in the afternoon & evening. When I asked for another cup of latte, Mandy served it in a paper cup so that I can have it on the way to the airport. There are villas that I would love to view so that we may come here with our daughter in the future but I have to leave the hotel for the airport at 7:30am. The staff waved us farewell outside of the hotel which was a very lovely gesture that made us feel warm & respected. We only wish we could stay here a bit longer. Au revoir but not goodbye. Highly recommended.

“Nice garden”

A brand new hotel with Beautiful garden, nice hot spring, nice place to stay for whole family. The surrounding is also good, very countryside view. You can see the pacific view in the sunny day. The service here is quite good as well, people are very friendly, very good hotel!

We booked a stay because the theme park on the resort grounds has capybaras and alpacas we can play with. Entry to the park is free for hotel guests, and we had a lot of fun feeding the capybaras, petting them, and watching them enjoy themselves. Alpacas were also very docile and cute. We had an ocean view room in the main wing of the hotel, which gives us views of the park, the ocean, and also Guishan Island in the distance. The room has standard amenities, and the small minibar is free. The electronic controls for the lights and the aircon can be confusing, as the same wall-mounted device controls both, and one needs to press a button to switch between lighting and aircon. My parents couldn't figure it out. The bathroom is between the balcony and the bedroom and has floor-to-ceiling windows. This means that unless one is on a high enough floor, it may be possible for someone on the ground or one of the Japanese villas in front to get a peek. It is then necessary to draw the blinds. The deep sunken bath is quite nice, and feels Japanese in style. We didn't use the pool, but my parents really enjoyed the hot spring baths - which are separated by gender and therefore clothing optional. Going there in the morning meant they had it to themselves. Hotel offers a "supper" from 9:30-10:30 pm in the lobby, and there is a rush of guests trying to grab light snacks, desserts... etc. Breakfast is decent for a Taiwanese hotel, with lots of salad/fruit selections as well as many hot dishes - skewed towards local flavors. Guests are split into 3 time slots upon check-in. My only complaints are: - the room smells kinda pungent upon check-in. This is probably due to the intense summer heat during the day, and improves after the aircon is turned up. Mom thought it smelled of armpits but it's probably just the rubber/plastic in the room being heated. - hotel uses cheap materials which are not durable. There is a lot of wallpaper - even in the elevators - so that gets ripped easily and the hotel doesn't bother repairing the damage. The front doors of the hotel which slide open also needs to be lubricated as they make loud squeaks every time they open. Other than that I was happy with my 1-night stay. Front desk staff was helpful in calling us taxis and helpful and friendly in general.
