We were very happy to be able to go there as it was our first experience at such a 'Honeymoon' hotel where breakfast was served 'in bed'. The surrounding was also suitable for our main aim which was birding. Except for a few minor inconvenience of insect bites, we were totally satisfied with our trip. The insect bites happened during our wandering around the area and NOT within the hotel.

“Viewtiful Escape”

This was a surprisingly pleasant experience on a sudden spontaneous trip. Usually when people think about Beitou or Yangmingshan for hotsprings, people would never have heard about “Mountain Star”. Which as a result makes it so quiet and a true getaway from tourists. It’s only about 20 rooms in total and though not 5-star luxurious standard like chain hotels, our Deluxe Suite was equipped with not one, not two, but THREE hot springs tub (two in our outdoor balcony). And the room comes with its own steam sauna room. Both views in the mornings and nights are magnificent, overlooking the entire Taipei City (and yes, you can see Taipei 101). If you don’t drive, you can get there by taking the MRT to Beitou Station, then transferring either on the small9 or small26 bus and getting off at “FengWei” stop. The ride is only about 15 minutes up the mountain, some taxis won’t take you up the mountain if it’s later on the night. Insider tip- in March, the place is surrounded by wild cherry blossom for another level of insider experience in hidden gem Beitou.

While hotels in Asia can sometimes not meet western standards, 4 stars is a bit of a stretch. The images look like its 4 stars going on 5 but it just lacks key features of a luxury hotel but charges the price of a luxury hotel for Taiwan. Compaired to other hotels that in the 4/5 star bracket, there is just a real lack of service and finish on this hotel. The hotel restaurant is very limited in its food offering with basically rice and noodles dishes. I think there needs to be some alternative for tourists from outside Asia. There is no mini bar and drinks are about 3 times prices in the shop. The hotel is respectable but needs to refine its finish and check in more with guests and their needs. 3.5/5.
