Great hotel in challenging times. The front desk team are all super friendly and welcoming. Breakfast and food provided in the hotel is exquisite. General Manager Achim went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Highly recommended!

Taiwan has taken combatting the corona virus very seriously, meaning the number of international guests has been much reduced. However, the popularity of "staycations" has increased, as people are holidaying at home. The Sherwood, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, has a number of features to appeal to guests, such as a pool, male and female saunas, a spa and fitness center. The Sherwood has upgraded its rooms. It has also upgraded its MICE offering.

Clean hotel, good location, decor and equipment needs updating. Came for the weekend and prepaid for breakfast. The buffet on Saturday was pretty sad, because they didn't have high occupancy they didn't open the actual buffet. It was a mini buffet at one of their restaurants that was worse than the fare offered at any trendy 3* hotel in Taiwan. The coffee was not drinkable, extremely watery. Pool is beautiful but can be dangerous with kids, the whole area is completely marble... so it's very slippery. Had communication issues with staff. We called ahead of time to check on limitations for the pool such as age requirements and if "there were any other requirements?" We should have been more specific, they said no, we got there and we needed swim caps. Many 4 to 5 star hotels in Taiwan do not require them, which is why we called. Anyway, the English rules said "appropriate swim attire", nothing on website. The Chinese rules at the pool DO list the caps, but also not on website. So we wore hotel-issued shower caps. The hotel staffer did, however, allow another family to immerse their inadequately-diapered baby in the pool for about 10-20 minutes. You decide whether that was a good call or not. When I asked them to please update signage and make a note to mention to people who ask in future, they said they were "sorry they allowed me misunderstand," and "Taiwan requires caps everywhere, so it is 'appropriate attire.'" I am a local, we live here, I was speaking Chinese when they said this. Probably would've been better if they said, "sorry we weren't clear, we will make it super clear in future." There are other hotels in this price range, maybe try those instead. At the very least, you may get a decent coffee and they won't politely call you a foreign idiot. Pool open 9am to 9pm on holidays, not that they would tell you that until you arrive. Spa menu only available at the hotel. There is a good-sized super clean sauna and a very nice, giant massage chair in each changing room (separated by gender). Hope the buffet on Sunday is better, we haven't gotten that far. Also seriously, we paid for a 4 to 5 star hotel, we can afford to buy a cap, maybe have one for sale? It can even say The Sherwood. I can use it as a souvenir.

Upon arrival we came into a beautiful entrance. But when closer to our room, it looked tired and old the decor and furniture. It felt a bit run down and not pleasant. I found this a bit disappointing as the photos made it look vibrant and fresh. There was a large stain on the carpet and again the carpet felt old and tired. The clock didn't work and the bin was dirty. In the evening I took a bath and couldn't find shampoo. So I call reception. A housekeeper came and told me, there is shampoo it's in the shower! It's a cheap nasty block on the wall, you would expect to find in a motel. She gave me a shampoo and left. I told the reception when checking out they apologised and said try us again. But why would I do that? I asked for a discount they gave me 10% which was nice. But I honestly wouldn't bother again. Their sister hotel was charging 3,000 a night but I chose this at 5,000 because I thought, I want a nicer more quality experience. The breakfast selection was good! But the taste was average. The tea was very weak and only warm not hot. Again the food wasn't hot either, just mildly warm. Oh the pool was lovely but too cold! It needs to be warm/have the sun out to swim and enjoy it more. I didn't feel it was a 5* experience compared to the other 5* hotels I've stayed in! Only one pillow, just lots of little things. It feels maybe in a routine and needs some fresh eyes?
