I stayed at the Atlas Hotel twice now in June 26. Each time I wanted to enjoy a night out in Bangkok without the struggle to get home with public transport. I have visited this particular little soi (street) a few times, but I had never considered staying at a hotel here. The hotel is at start of Nana Soi 7/1. This soi is known for its nightlife and a walk along the soi certainly makes it pretty clear the nature of the nightlife in this little slice of Bangkok. If you are in Bangkok looking to party and enjoy this kind of nightlife, it’s the perfect hotel to stay at. The walk from the nearest sky train BTS station Nana to the hotel is only about two minutes. It’s literally below the station. It’s a fantastic location if you seek the nightlife entertainment. The little soi7/1 has a really interesting history and is certainly something of a landmark for many people both local expats and visitors. It’s known for being the location of one of the scenes in the Bangkok movie The Hangover. The street has some interesting bars with hostesses and massage options and for some people this may not be the right environment. In terms of location the hotel is right amongst the busy bars and restaurants of this popular nightlife zone. Thankfully no need for a long taxi back to your hotel room, arguments over the fare and joining the masses stuck in Bangkok traffic. You walk out of your hotel, and you are immediately immersed in the excitement and energy of the vibrant Nana area. The room was absolutely fine and a level of comfort that was more than satisfactory for the price I paid. Happy with the quality and what you would expect in terms of space, bathroom facilities and I felt the room was absolutely adequate. I also slept well despite the location being in a busy area. The bed was huge and very comfortable and all-round the room was clean and comfortable. There is ample storage space and a decent desk so you can sit and use a laptop and work should you need to. The bathroom is quite large, well-lit with good water pressure and again all very clean. There is a small safe too. There is a fridge with complimentary water and thankfully a kettle with tea and coffee for you to use. I have stayed in expensive hotels where even this basic provision is denied. I felt that the Atlas Hotel made a good effort to provide a clean and welcoming environment at a very affordable price. Plenty of clean towels, hair dryer and a TV. I didn’t use the TV and am not sure if it has Netflix, YouTube and other such options. The view from your room really depends upon which side of the soi your room is on. The hotel has two sections to it. There is the reception and rooms on the left as you walk up the small soi. But then there is the other section of the hotel on the opposite side of the soi in what I believe they termed the annex. I stayed the annex side both times and my room overlooked the tight soi and the bars below. The soi is extremely narrow and so the view from your room will be the buildings opposite and that includes the other side of the hotel. If you sleep in a room in this same annex but on the other side of the corridor you will have a more pleasing view of the empty land between Soi 7 and Soi 11. But be aware there is continued construction work on that plot of land, and it could be noisy with the cranes and diggers. I had a good night’s sleep facing onto the soi. The staff were helpful, polite, efficient and welcoming. This is a very small hotel with basic rooms at an affordable price. So do not expect luxury service, pool, restaurant, porters and all want may expect at high end hotel. But for me it’s the perfect choice for a short city stay. If you seek to be right in the nightlife action of this area, amongst the bars, clubs and restaurants then it’s perfect. With the sky train next you it’s a fantastic starting point to explore the rest of the incredible city of Bangkok. I noticed on my second stay the little sign high up on the wall of the main hotel block. It reads ‘What you have been searching for so long might be right under your table’. I found this quite wonderful. That the owner and designer had added this little touch. I will stay at this hotel again for sure and feel it’s an excellent choice for anyone wishing to stay in a central Bangkok hotel at a very affordable price.

Continuing my search for budget hotels near the BTS/Metro System, this one is currently around $30 USD on Agoda. The bathroom was small and simple, but very clean. Few amenities were provided. The hot water worked well as did the air-conditioning & Wi-Fi. The room was also small & simple but clean. My room faced Sukhumvit Road, so there was street noise. The other side of the building faces Soi 7/1, a bar/red-light street. I would stay here again.
