Usually stay at Avani by choice when in KK, this trip we tried the Sky View room upgrade with lounge access. Great value IMHO when you check in you can go eat lunch free with nice buffet items which are all high quality Free Coffee/tea soft drinks. came back for afternoon Tea with nice selection of Cakes. On the evening there are a couple of hours when you can have Cocktails Beer and wine we enjoy a few drinks so all in all great value for about 2000 baht extra over a standard room. BTW rooms are all on top floor so less noise generally

I stayed here on the recommendation of a friend. The hotel is very convenient for the Bangkok Hospital where I'd booked a full health screen. It's a large hotel, yet I felt very 'at home' thanks to the charm and helpfulness of the team here. The pool is a good size for laps. Breakfast is very good for a provincial hotel. An international 4 star standard property with a service culture that would put some leading 5 star Bangkok hotels to shame (I can think of one tall riverside property in particular that could take hospitality lessons here).

The Avani Khon Kaen is quite a spectacular looking hotel and the low-level single storey hotel buildings with green tiled roofs, in front of the main hotel building, kind of reminded me of The Grand Palace complex in Bangkok. On arrival, there is a large underground hotel car park for guests and then the check-in was fast, easy and efficient. Our room was on floor 11 and had views over Khon Kaen (including those green tiled roof buildings mentioned above), but having said that, there isn't too much to look at in the vicinity, even from the 11th floor!. The room was pretty standard size and (I personally) thought, looked quite dated – it reminded me of hotels in the 80’s and 90’s (dark brown furniture and beige tiles on the walls and floors), but perfectly adequate though. One thing very noticeable though was the cleanliness, especially in the bathroom where the chrome sanitary fittings were absolutely sparkling clean. Our room rate included (Executive) lounge access and we had the opportunity to enjoy Afternoon Tea in the lounge. My first impressions of the lounge were that it was completely lifeless. It was just a room with some chairs and tables in it, a counter on one side with cakes/snacks available to guests and a small fridge containing guest beverages. There was only one staff member on duty, and she greeted us on entry and informed us that we could have any of the food and drinks on display – except the bottled alcoholic beverages in the refrigerator. And then - she just stood there with no further assistance or advice, despite seeing me struggle to get the coffee machine to work. She appeared to be a little shy?. Because of the lack of any ambience and that we were the only guests in there, we only stayed about 15-20 minutes as we felt a little uncomfortable. A few hours later, after an hour or two at the (great) pool, we were back in the lounge again for snacks and beverages (including alcoholic beverages this time), and the same girl was on duty in the lounge, however she seemed a bit more attentive to us and the other lounge guests, so we stayed a little longer, this time :). After a couple of hours of (complimentary) drinks in the lounge, we decided to move on to the hotel’s English-style pub/bar, called The London Inn. This place had a good atmosphere with good attentive staff and a live band too. Food was available to order in here, and we took advantage of the 300-baht hotel credit which was informed to us on check-in, to order some food to go with our drinks. We were offered a promotion of 2 hrs. unlimited draught beer for 399++ baht, and after comparing the price per bottle – we decided to take up this promotion and it was a good choice as the bar had a really good atmosphere, great staff – and the live music was also quite good. After a comfortable and quiet night’s sleep we went to the restaurant for our (included) breakfast and were actually very impressed by the buffet style breakfast selection and quality of food on offer. There really was something for everyone and very efficient and attentive staff. In summary, The Avani- Khon Kaen is a nice enough hotel which would suit all kinds of guests (business, leisure, tour group). It is fairly standard throughout (rooms, restaurants etc) – although the executive lounge felt a bit lifeless and uninviting. There is a good swimming pool at the hotel and the room rates are quite good for this standard of hotel. We would have no problem staying at the Avani Khon Kaen Hotel if we are in Khon Kaen again.
