Vimarn Cottage & Spa was an absolute bliss from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The hospitality was simply outstanding. We were welcomed with genuine warmth, and what touched us most was seeing members of the staff come down to the speedboat to say goodbye when we departed. It perfectly reflects the level of care and attention they give to their guests. Our cottage was beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly integrated into the stunning natural surroundings. Every detail seemed thoughtfully designed to create a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast deserves special mention. It was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have experienced in Thailand: an amazing buffet with a wide variety of high-quality options, beautifully presented and delicious. The same can be said for Restaurant O, where every meal was excellent, combining quality ingredients, great flavors, and attentive service. The location is simply spectacular. In my opinion, this is the best beach on Koh Samet and the only place on the island where you can enjoy a truly beautiful sunset. The beach is peaceful, secluded, and incredibly scenic. If you are looking for more activity, Sai Kaew Beach is only a short tuk-tuk ride away, making the location perfect: quiet when you want to relax, lively when you want entertainment. I've stayed in many hotels throughout Thailand, and Vimarn Cottage & Spa ranks among the very best. A true paradise, with exceptional service, wonderful food, and an unforgettable setting. I have been coming to Thailand for 45 years, and for the last five years it has been my home. Beautiful Koh Samet was the first island I visited here. There was almost nothing then—a simple bungalow with no electricity, a generator shut off at night, fish caught that same day by local fishermen, and a few beers on ice. I have returned to Koh Samet many times since, and this was now my fifth stay at Le Vimarn Cottages & Spa. I feel I owe them this honest review. For me Le Vimarn represents Thai hospitality at its finest. In a country where many so-called five-star hotels today feel like well-oiled KPI machines, this is one of the very few places in Thailand where you genuinely do not feel like a number. You feel seen, remembered, and taken care of. Before arrival, I contacted the hotel because I was travelling with my parents both over 80, who had stayed here the year before. During that trip, we visited seven different five-star hotels across Thailand with them, and this was their clear favorite. It was their explicit wish to return. That alone says a lot. I reached out to the Resort Manager, Khun Wongwat, who was exceptionally kind and acknowledged us as returning guests. Communication throughout was effortless. When we arrived at the pontoon with our private boat, staff were already waiting with cold towels in hand like in a movie. Small detail, but perfectly timed, and genuinely welcoming. Check-in was handled by Khun Mint, who deserves to be mentioned by name. Warm, attentive, precise without being formal, and always with a natural smile. My parents were given exactly the same room they had the year before, which meant a lot to them. I was initially less happy with my room. After five stays I know the property well and had something specific in mind. Though fully booked, they moved me to the room I wanted after just one night. What stood out wasn't only that they solved it, but how— with quiet, efficient and with genuine care and effort. Once again I have to praise Khun Mint here. The setting itself is exceptional. The beach shared by three small hotels, quite simply, one of the most beautiful I have seen in Thailand: white sand, crystal clear water, and excellent for swimming. The resort is spread out over a relatively large area with individual bungalows, so even at full occupancy it never feels crowded. The bungalows have charm. They are not ultra-modern, slightly rustic in parts, but spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained. Beds are comfortable, linen and towels are very good, air conditioning works perfectly, and overall, the sleep quality is excellent. The food is consistently good. Breakfast isn't a sprawling city-hotel buffet but something more boutique, in keeping with the hotel itself—and perfectly satisfying. I rarely praise Italian restaurants in a hotel, but the one here is genuinely good. Again, consistency is the word: we knew this from previous stays, and it holds. That said, if you stay longer, food variety can become a consideration. You are essentially limited to the hotel or a short bumpy ride into town (about 200 baht by taxi), although the two sister hotels do allow you to order dishes across its different restaurants, which helps mitigate this. There are also a few structural realities worth mentioning. The beach is public, like all Thai beaches are. Visitors from outside can come and spend the day here. The hotel handles this with grace and professionalism. I only wish that all visitors would behave with the same level of respect. What makes this place stand out however isn't any single feature. It's the consistency of the smiles, the level of training and the management you don't see. You get the feeling that people aren't simply working here—they regard the resort with pride, as a home they share with you. It's an old-school haven, run not in a showy way but with the quiet confidence of people who know exactly what they're doing. It is truly a masterclass in how to run a small, high-quality resort. After 45 years of intense travelling, I can say this with confidence: places like this are rare.
