“Better than it looks”

This hotel is better than its ratings on Tripadvisor (or Agoda) would suggest. It appears that the hotel has undergone recent renovation. Furniture were fairly new and the room is very big. Hotel is in a good location near key attractions of Sakon Nakhon city. Good value for money.

This hotel doesn't look much from the outside, with it's shabby exterior, but inside where it really matters, it is good. The rooms are nicely decorated, bed is large and comfortable, with new linen. If you like to sleep in a dark room you'll love this place, if you closed the curtains and unplugged the TV, the room was pitch black. The staff at the front desk were also most helpful in assisting me where to go the next morning to find my difficult to find destination. I'd certainly stay there again.

Hotel No. 3 for this trip. Another move to be near family which determined the hotel rather than free choice. However, not bad! As has been mentioned elsewhere, the exterior leaves something to be desire, its almost 2 sides of a coin. 1 corner of the frontage appears almost grand but theist is rather shabby and unfinished. The view from my 3rd floor room was to the rear of the hotel and there is the building site somebody apse has mentioned in their review. However, this is NOT a work in progress. It is an abandoned works. The partially erected concrete skeleton shows the weather scars of significant passage of time. I suspect the capacity of original design of the hotel exceeded reality and the project was cut short. Nevertheless, the room is on a par with other 2 hotels we have stayed in this trip. So far the wifi (free) has been excellent for 80% of the time and non-existent for the rest. Frustrating as it didn't work just at the time I was trying to make a skype call to UK. I tried to use the lobby wifi but it coincided with a rather enthusiastic karaoke session. I couldn't compete. On the first day we used the spa, Her for a hair treatment and Him for a foot massage. Between us an hour of these treatments set us back 450THB. Minibar and fridge - bizarrely the minbar was on the dresser and the fridge was empty!?!? Nice shower room with enough space. No room safe - I'm seeing a pattern here. The staff are pleasant and helpful but Im guessing they have only a small proportion of English speakers among their guests. This made them a little shy but if necessary they dashed off to find a colleague to help out. I'm afraid to admit that my Thai is almost non-existent so I am reliant on goodwill. A side note regarding my experience in Sakon Nakhon with no language skills. As you might expect, English is not as widely spoken in Sakon Nakhon as in the larger cities. Due to my partner being tied up with family I've been left to fend for myself. I'm not a great mime so I was really grateful to the variety of shop staff and patient public who did speak English and who stepped forward to interpret if I was having trouble. I've bought phone credit, street food, crockery, clothes and much more without a word of Thai crossing my lips (except Kob khun khrab, and please excuse my spelling).
