The place blew me away. Everything about The Kumaon was what I was hoping for, in a solo travel. The place, the food, the service.. each and everyone made sure I was comfortable in every way. I had to choose between Japan and Almora/Binsar and I chose the latter. I couldn’t have chosen better. Abhinav, the manager is exceptionally tuned to every guest’s requirements and made sure my requirements were all met. The naturalist, Suraj, was very well versed with the flora, fauna, birds and engaged me throughout every hike. I learned pine nuts came from pine cones and how laborious it is to extract them :) The location itself is very convenient i could just walk to the cafes on the hippie trail and Kasar Devi temple daily.

Location of the kumaon is good balance between secluded and within range of to do cafes and temple of kasar devi. Vehicle doesn’t go through till the gate of the property. It is a 300m walk from the parking area where they send porters to carry your luggage. Property is 8/10. It is a mix of brutalist style blending with the nature. I personally quite liked it. Others may find it bland. There are not many things to do in the property other than a spa and they do organise walk and hikes which suites the theme well but many might think it lacks entertainment. Rooms are pristinely clean and well designed. All rooms have exceptional vibe as it blends into the nature perfectly. You can just open the window and sit , you’ll feel you’re in the jungle but with all the facilities. Abhinav has made sure the vibe of the whole property is surely set with perfect kind of music playing throughout the common areas and dining hall. Otherwise the property is very peaceful and free from any noise. Now the staff and service is where the kumaon just takes a step further beyond imagination. All the staff are local to kasar devi. They are well trained and extremely polite. Abhinav and the whole team takes up a notch with regards to the service they offer. Since it was my honeymoon, he was kind enough to give us complementary spa. Food is always good and extremely well curated. You can get range from local kumaoni thali to continental menus for your meals. Breakfast is also well stacked with freshly baked muffins. Value is a very subjective topic for luxury hotels. I would certainly say that it’s an experience you should take if you can afford it to just enjoy the space and luxury rather than any sightseeing

My husband and I had a deeply nourishing and memorable three-night stay at The Kumaon. The hotel is tucked into the hills with wide, open Himalayan views; one morning, we woke up above the clouds and watched the mountains float in a soft sea of mist right from our bed. The atmosphere is calm, intimate, and secluded, making it an ideal place to slow down, rest, and gently reset from the demands of everyday life. The food was natural, healthy, and prepared with fresh, local ingredients, and it felt both light and delicious. Also, what sets The Kumaon apart is the warmth and care of the team, especially GM Abhinav, who was even willing to accompany me to the hospital in the middle of the night when I had medical concerns. I felt genuinely safe and cared for. I also had a massage during my stay, which was great and added another layer of relaxation. Another special aspect is the subtle but strong spiritual and energetic feel of the area: visiting nearby temples such as Kasar Devi and Jageshwar gave the whole stay a distinctly high‑vibration, contemplative quality. With the views, the wholesome food, the kindness and promptness of the staff, and the tranquil, almost sacred atmosphere, The Kumaon felt less like a hotel, and more like a small mountain sanctuary I would gladly return to.

My stay at The Kumaon was nothing short of exceptional. Waking up to a breathtaking view of the snow-clad Himalayas right from my bed was an experience I’ll never forget since it felt surreal and deeply calming at the same time. The food was absolutely amazing, with every meal thoughtfully prepared (my fav being the Kumaoni Thaali). What truly set this experience apart, though, was the level of hospitality. The General Manager - Mr. Abhinav Trivedi went above and beyond to ensure our stay was special, making us feel genuinely cared for throughout the stay. A highlight of our visit was the beautifully arranged private candlelight dinner for our anniversary. It was intimate, elegant, and incredibly memorable, clearly put together with great attention to detail. Overall, this place exceeded all my expectations. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with stunning views, exceptional service, and unforgettable experiences, The Kumaon should be on your list!
