This was our first time having been recommended to Coco Reef by friends who travelled with us to the hotel. They were right; the hotel is wonderful if a little tired at the edges but in no way did this detract from our enjoyment. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a great beach view. Some reviewers have said some of the staff are not friendly. What! They were absolutely fantastic and made our visit. I cannot recall all the names so, not to miss anyone, I will name none but well done to you all. Also I see some criticism of the restaurant food. I cannot understand this as we thought the food was excellent and amongst the best we have eaten in Caribbean hotels (and we have visited more than a few). Lennox the head chef produced a great varied menu. We will return next year when I expect the Painkiller cocktail that I taught the bar staff to make is at the top of the cocktail menu.

We have recently returned from Coco Reef having had the most amazing 3rd visit. We recommended the hotel to some friends we met in Antigua over the last couple of years and they decided to join us and they were not disappointed. Yes, there are some places around the hotel that could do with an upgrade but this does detract from its charm…and don’t forget..you are in the Caribbean! The food has improved this year under the watchful eye of Lennox, the Jerk Pork fillet was stunning. All the staff are fantastic, unfortunately I am useless with remembering names so apologies if I forget anyone, you all are amazing. Thank you to Beverly, she made me an amazing Bob Marley! Also to Jinelle, Shanice, Jean, Marissa, Junette, Amoya, Ria, the lovely lady who sorted me out with cheese and crackers in our room when I had an off day, sorry, I’ve forgotten your name but thank you! Also new shoes Frederick! Also many thanks to Janelle, Esther, and the lady that calls me “Mr Soca”! This year we did an island tour for the first time. Tobago is a stunningly beautiful place. Lester was our guide, he was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. Finally thank you to the new boss lady(apologies, name thing again but I’ll blame it on the rum punch!), we’ll definitely be back next year…if you’ll have us! 😎

We had a wonderful week at Coco Reef in March 2026. The hotel is in a excellent location. Probably the shortest airport transfer you'll ever have (3 minutes!). The hotel faces out over the sea & waking up and having breakfast overlooking the blue sea, taking in the sands and the palm tress is something you'll never forget. It's just a short walk to the streets of Bon Accord which seemed safe and friendly, and a mile and a bit gets you to Pigeon Point if you wish to really want to stretch your legs. The hotel's sea lagoon area is lovely, a jewel in it's crown, and gives a safe swimming and snorkelling area, right at the end of your sunbed. The food on the whole was good. I'm in agreement with others in that breakfast stands out, lunch is too, but order early. Dinner was not bad but somehow felt it was trying to something it didn't need to be at times. The hotel never appeared to be overbusy, and finding a sunbed by the sea or the pool was never a problem. Eating at a time suitable to us again was no problem. Was easy to be served at the beach bar and drinks were good, especially if you catch rum punch on a good day!! The staff on the whole was ok. Some served with a smile, some didn't. Either way you are in Tobago - it's beautiful, enjoy it! To grab a view of some of Tobago's beauty, we took a day tour out. Hans Tours are pushed on guests but I'd suggest a bit of research and grab a day out with someone like PETER COX tours, where you will get a unique and private experience tailored to your wants. Maybe we got a little lucky, grabbing a BA all inclusive package which fell in the 'quite affordable' category, either way this hotel is lovely, avoids the noise & delivers a wonderful chilled out experience you'll never tire of.

“Changes in management…”

Thanks to massive offer from BA, we could return for the 3rd time to Coco Reef specifically to attend the Easter Tuesday Goat / crab racing. Thanks to massive offer from BA, we could return for the 3rd time to Coco Reef specifically to attend the Easter Tuesday Goat / crab racing. Careful calculation to avoid Easter hike in prices meant we came for 18days. Odd, no greeting from Adrian Grant and his staff with the usual rum punch on arrival. We were later told he had “retired”. Apparently… Kelton Thomas, the fantastic bird man was also not in Tamaras at breakfast and you could tell that from the number of grackles taking advantage of no predators. The middle management - the ladies with a necktie - remain fantastic ambassadors for Coco, stand up to take a bow: Jenille, Jennifer, Beverley, Morrisa, Earlyn and Elizabeth. Youngsters Jamilia, Frederick, Ria, Adrienne and Michael aka the Duracell bunny have great futures in the hospitality business. Apologies for anyone not named here, I am very deaf. Particularly the guy who did not speak English….nice man. The lack of senior management leading from the front was evident. Previous general manager (Adrian) was often to be seen in the hotel, encouraging staff, engaging with customers, just being there. Whatever the truth of his loss, it is clear the new senior leadership has a very different style and we do not think it’s working from our observations and previous experiences at Coco. Maybe the owners want it to fail? Introducing yourself as “Director” and general manager and not being seen until next cocktail party does not impress. Especially if you don’t know your audience or their background. Apparently there are some plans to upgrade rooms to being more disabilty friendly. Certainly, as in the past 2 visits, this is needed. If we come again, BA offers permitting, we were shown a room that has a walk in shower and toilet a few inches higher. We live in hope to return as we love the place and especially the F2F staff who are real treasures. Tobagonian people do not fawn on tourists just to get tips, you have to earn their friendship. Food. Sigh. A real area of contention for us. Very little local food on offer apart from at breakfast. Lunch is a melange of various fast foods. Very disappointing. We do love a rice & curry. Dinner is a mixture. The fish fishes are well cooked except for the ghastly ‘bacon wrapped scallops’. In my opinion scallops should be seared in butter or olive oil with a touch of garlic. Trying too hard, pea purée is an abomination, ditto ‘foam’. The various steak presentations were pretty chewy including the “filet mignon”. We realise much of the food has to be imported but given the pricing in Tamaras, we might expect better. Why is there no lobster? Or crayfish? Yes, we realise there is a seasonal issue but it could be an extra, subject to additional cost on the menu. I think Lennox is missing a trick here. Several times items were either not defrosted (potato croquettes) before being served or the fries at lunch were lukewarm. Breakfasts are lavish to be fair. Paper chits? Really? Takes me back to my childhood in the East, 60 years ago.. There can be absolutely to argument in favour of a 19c system in these days. Sort it out Coco senior mgt. Due to our inability to climb the stairs we had to request Lyn the masseur to visit our room. Being massaged on an ordinary bed in not fair to us or Lyn’s skills. Please could this be sorted out to a more accessible resource? She’s good at her job. We made a new chum on the flight over from the UK. She is very well connected to the higher end holiday market. We can’t speak for her but I think it helped to persuade her to consider Coco for future clients when she could see it through our eyes. We hope so because I think the uncertainty of Coco remaining viable in current climate may be uncertain. Apparently the new international terminal at ANR will open in June. Delay was (apparently) due to USA removing the radar system. If we can afford it, we will return. Hopefully to a walk in shower room! We really don’t care about sea view as less wildlife to watch. In the N wing we had iguanas plus assortment of dinky lizards and geckos. Many thanks to the working staff we met on a daily basis.
