Over the past year my husband has been working in Scotland, visiting this hotel on a regular basis. Recently I was in a position to be able to join him. As a rural church minister, I know how important community and family are. The Bowfield is not only a first class hotel, but it is a place of welcome and connection. I never go away without feeling that I have been looked after and cared for. The staff are friendly, caring and committed, they take time to get to know you and your needs without being in any way intrusive or overbearing. On a recent visit, after the death of my father, the cleaning staff left me treats and a message of condolence, it meant so much. The hotel spa and leisure facilities, create a space for the local community to meet, make, friends and flourish, both mentally and physically. Being at this hotel is the equivalent to receiving a big hug from the world, you leave relaxed, calm and rested. Thank you to everyone involved, creating a team that are able to evoke the type of atmosphere you have, requires hard work and dedication from everyone involved, so thank you!

Easter weekend get away to one of the hotel's new lodges with hot tubs. These are beautiful. Cleverly positioned looking out over the hills, you could be miles away from anywhere, rather than just outside Glasgow. The lodges are essentially "suites" for the hotel and are NOT self catering. Breakfast in the hotel is included in the stay, and we also had a spa treatment package. Nothing has been forgotten in the lodges, from coffee and tea facilities, ample fridge for refreshments, to dressing gown and flip flops for trips to the hot tub. There is also a blue tooth speaker for music to unwind to. Facilities at the hotel include large pool and gym as well as soft play area for kids. Staff in every part of the hotel are fabulous and I can't thank them enough for their care and attention during our stay. Bar and restaurant have a lovely atmosphere to relax in. I'd rather not have TV screens everywhere, but that's personal preference. Plumpy Duck restaurant has a great selection and prices are good. Breakfast is buffet style and although not the most extensive selection is hot, tasty and good. This was my second stay at Bowfield and I will definately be back- provided my excellent review doesn't make it too hard to get booked!!

Where do I start….. if you are looking to use this for a relaxing spa break don’t, it’s not that type of place. Just because it has Spa in the title doesn’t mean it’s relaxing. We stayed in a suite as we were looking for a relaxing overnight stay however the place is overrun by kids and locals, there is a creche/kids play area that resembles a “brewers fair/harvester”. The Spa pool area is overcrowded and noisy, not enough beds and the beds are very uncomfortable. You need to walk through the kid's play area and cafe in your rope to get into the pool. The bar was small and the tables were sticky. The restaurant was ok, the food was ok/good, and we had Sunday lunch/dinner apart from the beef being overly fatty it was ok. Room, it was on the second floor, it has no air conditioning so was very warm when we arrived, you can open windows which cooled it down but on the flip side, it’s very noisy with staff coming and going (you are in the staff car park) also we woke to the bins being emptied at 6.30 am considering it was a bank holiday was disappointing. Another thing about the room is it has a green emergency light on the ceiling and when the lights are off it’s like Hampden Park, I did call down to reception to ask how I switch it off at 11 pm but was told you can’t, I am not exaggerating it’s like a flood light. The room itself is nice and the bathroom is nice. Breakfast was fine, buffet breakfast but again I assume because of staffing issues the tables were sticky and dirty. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again, but I suppose it’s a certain clientele that will frequent a hotel like this and as you say you get what you pay for, our total say was circa £450 for 1 night including food and drinks.

“Lovely hotel”

Beautiful hotel and family room. Very comfy bed and lovely pillows and duvet. Could do with offering free bottled water given price of room and things like disposable shower caps would be useful. Food at plumpy duck brought down overall rating but would definitely stay at hotel again
