We went on a family trip tp York and chose The Queens Hotel, as it was both near the station and close to the centre of York. We arrived early at the hotel (1pm), hoping to be able to drop our bags off so we could go exploring before checking in. We were pleasantly surprised to find our room was available and checked in. Our room was a family room, located on the top floor. It was a large room, with velux windows to the side. We had a large tv and full bathroom, plus tea and coffee facilities. The decor is 'dated' but its clean more than adequate for us. We had breakfast included and we could choose a time slot for breakfast, which I think is a great idea, saves fighting for a table. Breakfast choice was good - hot selection excellent, bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and fried bread. There were also cereals, yogurt, fruit and croissants. Coffee wasn't great, it was bog standard filter coffee included, which I'm not a fan of - but there were herbals teas and Yorkshire Tea available, plus orange and apple juice. Nice bar/lounge area which is open 12 - 12, limited drinks, but they had ales, lagers, wines and spirits. Staff were all friendly. Only downside, despite the location being excellent, there is a bar next door, the first night was fine, but the second night (a Wednesday) there was lots of noise into the early hours and then woken early by the bin lorries taking the empties away.

First time here,the room is big,good size hard bed,great view and location,the staff have been pleasant and work hard,all rooms that I have come across are upto a good clean standard,food on first night was very good and me and a few other ladies that I met here this evening are surprised its only a 2 star,a very good experience so far.

“Nice hotel overlooking the river”

Quite a basic but nice hotel with what seemed a small staff. Rooms where ok and generally quiet but i think the hotel was pretty quiet. Quite a basic but nice hotel with what seemed a small staff. Rooms where ok and generally quiet but i think the hotel was pretty quiet. We went with a coach party so had dinner at a set time but plenty of choice on the menu. Lovely position overlooking the river with parking underneath, be careful though as the River Ouse is prone to overtopping and when we were there the carpark was under water. Great position near the city centre and quite a few bars within a short walk. 20 min walk to the racecourse and everything else can be reached in that time. Would stay again.

Stayed over Easter weekend and chose the hotel for the location which is just perfect to explore the city. With 2 children being central meant they could take a break later in the afternoon without having to get in the car each time. The hotel has parking underground (height restricted so best.to check if you have a high SUV). Cost of parking is expensive at £17 a day and must be booked in advance (didn't bother us but the garage entrance shutter was always open so not secure) Room was fine and a good size and beds were comfortable. The room was basic and clean, hot water and everything worked as expected so it met expectations. Only comment is that we were woken by people walking back from bars late at night (3am) and people taking early showers etc. Breakfast was basic and personally wouldn't recommend for the price. There are plenty of much better places for breakfast nearby (one being Robinson's which is a 10 minute walk). Staff were fine but that's about it. So we never had to we never had to wait for anything, drinks or be seated for breakfast. Overall though there's no warm welcome, small talk or anything more than the bare minimum. Overall, the location is great and has the added plus of parking on site. There are I'm probably better places to stay (we just booked quite late so choice was limited)
