I arrived and the room was stone cold. Brrrrr. I turned the radiator up. While waiting, I went to fill a bath. Not only was the hot tap stone cold, the plug didn't fit. I went downstairs to see if I could get help. The very nice Estonian hotelier in reception soon came up and noted everything. First he went into the bathroom. I waited in my bedroom, feeling a bit awkward. After about five minutes, he reappeared and explained that I did have hot bath water; it's just that the taps had been put on wrong so blue was hot and red was cold. Ah,ha! O.K. He then went away for what seemed forever and came back with the right size bath plug. Once more, he disappeared into the bathroom to add the new plug. He then reappears and looked at the radiator. I moved to the other side of the bed, not wanting to encroach. He went away. Again, after what seemed a long time, he came back with a spanner, played a little tune on the radiator and bingo, heat. After an inauspicious start, things dramatically looked up. The best thing about room 207 was a lovely big sash window that you could throw upwards. I like to dry my hair with the hairdryer but the steam from my hair-conditioner usually sets the fire alarms off. It can be really embarrassing. As I wasn't trapped in an air-sealed container, (like most hotel rooms) there was no danger of that. The lift doors were a bit continental: concertina style. You go in, and shut the concertina grill doors before the other door. Then, you can get going. It took me a while to realise that I would be going nowhere until I performed this double effort. I had to keep some meds cold and needed the Hotel to put one of my freezer blocks in their deep freeze. Again, no bother. For a cheap hotel, this was an excellent place, so central and yet so quiet. The hotelier made a 2 star place worth more like 4, hence my rating. Would stay again, no problem. Room 207 was excellent. The bath was really nice and long too. Good for tall people.

“A hotel with windows that actually open!”

Very convenient for New Street Station with one of the entrances opposite. Very clean, quirky with a bit of character thrown in. The big plus for me was opening the wooden sash windows for fresh air. It will be noisy if you’re street facing (take earplugs), it’s a city centre location after all. B… more

Very convenient for New Street Station with one of the entrances opposite. Very clean, quirky with a bit of character thrown in. The big plus for me was opening the wooden sash windows for fresh air. It will be noisy if you’re street facing (take earplugs), it’s a city centre location after all. Breakfast available in the station opposite, tea and coffee in room.

“Needs a refurbishment”

Room was cold & draughty room. But some of my friends rooms were cold too. Windows were very old & need replacing but would cost a fortune to replace. Room was cold & draughty room. But some of my friends rooms were cold too. Windows were very old & need replacing but would cost a fortune to replace. Only stayed for one night & it was adequate but really needs a complete refurbishment. That said bed was comfy & clean. Room itself was clean but very dated. A little over priced for comparable hotels in the area with more updated facilities.
