A superb choice. I researched quite a few b&bs in and around Buxton. I'm so pleased we chose this one. Rupert and Caroline were welcoming and looked after us with hearty breakfasts and plenty of tips. Our accommodation was good, with a bath and shower. A good choice of breakfast which is ordered the evening before. Tea making facilities in the room and ample free parking. We walked into Buxton each evening for dinner. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants to chose from. We went to The Sun Inn, The New Inn, Luciano's and BarWan. I'll do separate reviews on each. A must do is The Crescent Experience. We visited Chatsworth and several stately homes and gardens. Buxton is lovely and our choice of 9 Green Lane with our hosts Rupert and Caroline helped make it special. Thank you both.

“Pleasant stay in Buxton!”

We enjoyed our time at 9 Green Lane B&B - spacious room with plenty of storage for clothes! Lovely breakfast options too - we really liked that you fill in what you want the night before to save on waste. Free parking was a plus and a 10-15min walk into Buxton centre was ideal for us. We enjoyed our time at 9 Green Lane B&B - spacious room with plenty of storage for clothes! Lovely breakfast options too - we really liked that you fill in what you want the night before to save on waste. Free parking was a plus and a 10-15min walk into Buxton centre was ideal for us. The shower was a little temperamental in terms of the temperature (more cold than hot water coming out) but all in all a nice stay.

I was looking forward to a 50th reunion celebration of catering college friends & was lucky to be there the same weekend as Buxton open gardens , great I thought. I arrived , after a long bus journey around 2.40 pm . Waited for someone to come and answer the door . The man that came had a face like thunder , no smile , & I felt an inconvenience! I’ve been used to a pleasant , hello, do come in & did you have a good journey? He obviously didn’t go to charm school. I told him my name & he said oh we have had cancellations ,so upgraded your room. Oh lovely I thought for no extra charge. I have a special unique hold-all , with big handles & he grabbed the side strap which is only for tilting it to the wheeling position , I said put it down please or you will break it & use the two carry handles. It has , since broken. 😟. I was taken to room 9 on the first floor. He hurriedly told me the shower operation, & produced a sheet for me to select breakfast. I asked if I could have a couple of rolls & a yogurt to take & eat later , as I get stomach ache eating early in the day. In all the places I’ve stayed I’ve never had any issue with my request. I mean how long does it take to boil a couple of eggs & put them in a sandwich. Too short notice I was told, having never being asked if I had any dietary requirements. On closer inspection , as I was unpacking , I noticed the carpet was filthy with previous guests hairs & crumbs. I had to fetch Rupert back , who came armed with a long handled sticky roller 😳 & a tatty old Henry hoover. I moved the bed & shock horror it was filthy with allsorts of debris & hair! Yuck, Alex Polizzi would have been as horrified as I was. Four star establishment? He huffed & puffed & spent a few minutes cleaning it up. Surely this should be done as matter of routine with a stick Dyson that has brush rollers. Also the skirting boards are splashed with stale tea & a lot of dirt, & the glass on the desk needs taking off & cleaning between, it’s filthy. This made for him being very rude , wanting to put me in my original room, I had unpacked so I said no, being quite upset by now. The room overlooked a depressing concrete large yard that was also filthy with moss, wheelie bins & a metal bonfire bin. How depressing. Four star? No way. Best bits? Good tea & coffee station, comfortable bed with nice linen & and good bathroom , that sadly had hair & black mould in the bath plug hole that I removed. The towels were nice & clean too. It did however make for a frosty atmosphere throughout my visit, I have very high standards & respect other peoples property, taking my slippers & make the bed every day & leaving it tidy. The landlady was also not a people person but did make me some cheese & ham rolls , put in a bag with crisps & an apple, the bottle of water however had been opened so I didn’t drink it. I made the best of it , but won’t be returning. As a matter of hygiene, I saw Rupert watering some plant pots with the hose out in the back yard in his apron he wears to cook the food in . Not acceptable I’m afraid.

Lovely Victorian house, close to the town. The owners allowed us to leave our car before checking in and even after check out if needed. We ate at the Old Sun pub in the evening which was traditional and welcoming. Interior decor of the house is traditional and elegant. The room was big enough with plenty of sockets and storage. Well stocked quality tea & coffee. WiFi was good. The bathroom was cleaned to a reasonable standard, and nice to have a bath. There were a few issues with the shower which was difficult to get to the right temperature and the toilet seat was wobbly. The room was clean at eye level, except for the window frames, which had mould and looked dirty. The room had so many cobwebs that my partner had to climb up and dust above the bed as it made me feel a bit sick! The bed was okay but horrible pillows meant not a good night's sleep, also what can only be described as an old army blanket on top of the quilt for extra warmth. We didn't need it, thank goodness, as it was horribly scratchy. We had to fill in a sheet for breakfast to choose what we wanted and what time we wanted it. I think this is a good idea as everything is cooked fresh to order. Breakfast was nice enough, with a choice of fruit, yogurt and cereals as well as a cooked breakfast. The dining room was quiet with a few other couples. I would have liked some background music playing as I felt self-conscious, as if everyone could overhear what we were talking about. Rupert was serving, and seemed a bit stressed although the guest house only appeared to be half full. Again, the ceiling had lots of cobwebs. Time to break out the feather dusters! All in all, it was a fairly nice stay, but more attention to detail needed.
