“Outstanding”

We stayed 2 nights at the hotel and found the service offered from both Melanie and Adele outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel room was of a high standard and we enjoyed a comfortable stay and we will definitely return again to this hotel .

We had a lovely time here having a two course lunch. Ellie was our waitress. She was very pleasant and helpful giving us an overview of the food available. The starter was from a serve yourself buffet, which included smoked salmon and cooked salmon, charcuterie and various salads or soup and lovely crusty rolls. The main course was roast chicken or beef with a lovely selection of vegetables and roast potatoes. It was well cooked and nicely presented. Thankyou Ellie for great service. Highly recommended.

“An excellent hotel”

Visited at a weekend, 20% reduction for H du V members, few minutes walk up from the Ladies College and an easy 10 minute walk from the Promenade, parking for 14 cars out front (at £10/day) plus lots of street parking, hotel looks very smart inside, friendly and efficient staff, bedroom was spacious snd clean, v comfy bed, nespresso coffee machine plus fruit teas, large bathroom with walk in shower, excellent breakfast either both buffet and food to order. It was an excellent stay and we will revisit.

We have stayed at Hotel du Vin Cheltenham several times over the years and, sadly, what was once a reliable favourite now feels as though it is running on charm, nostalgia, and the occasional member of staff holding it all together by sheer force of will. Things got off to a less-than-glace-cherry start when we encountered a member of the kitchen staff apparently enjoying something rather more herbal than tobacco in the rear car park. Never quite the welcome one hopes for. Inside, the reception team were polite and efficient, although the reception area itself was carrying a rather determined aroma of body odour, which was not quite in keeping with the hotel’s usual pretensions of style and refinement. The room and public areas are looking decidedly tired. What may once have been “character” now feels much closer to “in need of urgent redecoration”. A fresh coat of paint would not go amiss, nor would a general spruce-up. The bar appeared to be playing an extended game of hide and seek with its staff, and we had to enlist the help of reception to locate someone to serve us. When help did arrive, it was obvious the poor barmaid was rushed off her feet. The hotel clearly needs more staff, unless the new concept is “self-service with a sense of jeopardy”. Dinner was a mixed bag. The evening waitress was excellent: friendly, attentive, and genuinely lovely. Unfortunately, the food itself was underwhelming and eye-wateringly overpriced. Breakfast then delivered the reverse experience: the food was very good, but the waitress seemed to regard the presence of guests as a deeply personal inconvenience. We used to really enjoy staying at Du Vin hotels, but this visit confirmed that things are not what they once were. Cheltenham now has better options, and unless this hotel finds its footing again, we would probably look elsewhere next time.
