I stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is in a good location it was great to be able to walk back and not wait in the traffic or shuttle bus queue after the races. Martin was very friendly and easy to contact via text. The breakfast supplies and fresh fruit were a nice touch. Yes the roll was a bit dated but this is reflected in the price. Really can’t complain as the hotel is excellent value.

“Couldn't make it up if I tried.”

Arrived on the Monday at about 19.30. My colleague still hadn't been given the access code to her bedroom. So first call made to the caretaker Martin. Arrived on the Monday at about 19.30. My colleague still hadn't been given the access code to her bedroom. So first call made to the caretaker Martin. Up 2 steep flights of stairs in the dark - the lights didn't work. The mobile phone torch allowed us to find her room. The window was open and no heating. Second call to Martin. Martin came and declared boiler had packed up. New room found. Only a tiny radiator worked so a blow heater was added and all the tea/coffee/breakfast food accessories moved to the new room. 10pm something tripped the electrics so both our rooms were in blackness. 3rd call to Martin. Tuesday 6.30am when my alarm went off to 'get up and go'. No heating. Message to Martin who replied that heating on from 7am to 9am. Tuesday 20.40, brushing teeth scantily dressed when I heard fiddling at my door which then opened. A man claimed it was his room for two nights, hence he had the access code. He phoned Martin this time. I've another night to go after this one - watch this highly entertaining space....

“Homely, like Mr Bean's Bedsit”

This was by far the cheapest accommodation available on Hotels.com for the day of my visit to Cheltenham. Cheaper even than the local inns and well-known chain hotels. So I'm confused by the many negative reviews for the place from people expecting steak at burger prices. Yes, there are negatives. The room carpet sported several large stains of dubious origin, but that's perhaps inevitable when the breakfast is self-service and in-room. The wardrobe door handle came off, but was still usable. The electric shower sounded like a jet engine; could be a problem for some. Into nitpicking territory, the tv was small, relative to the size of the room. Guest parking is minimal, and Pittville Circus has double-yellows. Yes, there are positives. The room and bed were comfortable and warm. There's a bath and a shower; rooms in the budget price bracket don't often have both. Plenty of clean, matching towels and the usual toiletries. As well as the requisite tea/coffee/biscuits, there's also a cupboard containing a fridge, microwave, cutlery/crockery and enough cereal, pastries, juice, yogurts, tinned and fresh fruit to easily feed two at breakfast. The building retains many original architectural features. The place lands somewhere between an old-school seaside lodging house and Mr Bean's bedsit. Secure building/room access is via a code provided upon booking confirmation. I'd stay again. It's somewhere to sleep and at around £50 for the night, you shouldn't expect more than that.
