“Fabulous”

Loved this hotel! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Peter who was exceptionally helpful and gave us plenty of recommendations! Our room was nice and clean and cool during the heatwave! We will definitely be back again soon.

Our first impression that this was a very corporate hotel but actually it was at breakfast we felt welcomed and more comfortable. We only stayed one night en route home after our tour of Wales. The hotel is ideally situated within walking distance of the city centre. We had a family room which was a little cramped with only one small chair to sit on although the bathroom was excellent. The beds were comfortable and we had a very good nights sleep. Breakfast was excellent. The only downside was parking and although included in the cost ion our hotel stay it was at public car park we were given two tickets to insert on the way out but ended up paying £20 again in order to exit. When we told staff we were told it was nothing to do with them!

“Disappointing”

I booked a ‘premium’ room. The only thing premium was price. Room very small considering the management have named it as though it was a suite. I booked a ‘premium’ room. The only thing premium was price. Room very small considering the management have named it as though it was a suite. The room is so small you can’t even open the fridge properly as the bed stops this. It’s really not worth paying the extra for the balcony. The balcony over looks a main road and there is no actual segregation from the other balcony’s. Meaning if you leave the door open someone from the next room can pretty much walk right into your room. No clothes storage space on the room. Not even a coat hanger. Redeeming factor was comfortable bed. Parking pretty rubbish. The recommended car park a good ten minutes on foot. So make sure you drop everything first if you are driving. The Apcoa car park is also too small for most modern cars

Booked for 3 nights in a king room. Overall the hotel is good but there are issues Location is perfect. 10 mins walk from river and city and just outside the busy area so not a lot of noise. On arrival we were told we didn’t have breakfast included when we had a booking confirmation clearly stating “member exclusive breakfast” this was eventually cleared up but not immediately, a phone call to reservations and then Peter from reception came to find us to confirm we were right. The room we had was nice, comfy bed and good size. Bathroom cleanliness is questionable, soap scum around hugs off shower door and dust on lamps and down side of bed. Biggest issue in the bedroom, the window was frosted, no view at all. I understand why due to neighbours and privacy but this could be advised before booking and on check in, only rooms at the front of the hotel overlooking the road have clear windows. We were told we could move but not until the second night. It didn’t bother us that much but was disappointing when we weren’t aware beforehand We ate in the forge restaurant on the first evening (see separate review) whilst food was good we were charged incorrectly ending in a £130 overcharge. There were a lot of reassurances from reception and the restaurant that this would be solved and we would receive emails confirming this. We were offered 30% of Room rate as compensation but again no written confirmation of this. The next morning we had none of this, after speaking to Sophie on reception everything was resolved within an hour. Both refunds received and a printed confirmation, thanks to her or Faith was restored. On the bar their team have little to no knowledge for recommendations, gin not served in correct glass and lemon put into the glass by hand, not with tongs. I have higher expectations of a hotel bar. We would stay again but with alot of new staff (we heard this excuse several times) more training is required. Bed, location and food great but puts a sour taste on a special occasion when problems occur and are not resolved quickly. Thanks again to Sophie.
