We have stayed at The Chase on many occasions before and we always venture back as we enjoy the relaxing remoteness of Ettington. Four buses a day into Stratford upon Avon and little more than a noisy woodpecker to rouse you in the morning, a quaint and quiet location it is. Our recent visit was nearly as good as ever although the hotel could do with some TLC in parts. The long drive into the car park has some vast pot holes which are not easy to see in the pitch dark, which it is given the lack of car park lighting. In addition, the state of the tarmac on the second section of the car park is such that a sledge and some snow would make it an exciting ride, such is the ridge which, again, cannot be seen due to the lack of lighting. We knew something was wrong when the bottom of the car almost got grounded! One final tidy up opportunity was some ripped wallpaper in the corridor, not really befitting of a classy establishment. This didnt appear fresh and was present throughout our whole stay. Be warned that you need your room number for breakfast. If your names not down you are not coming in! Ours was down but there was a computer problem so initially computer said no and the lady offered little in terms of discretion. Maybe she was in training for the new cashless, robotic system the hotel is adopting from mid April. No card, no drink. Who said cash is king? Finally, I would be pleased if the hotel didnt reply to my review with the generic cut and paste approach it appears to take towards reviews. Far from personal and not really offering particular reference to the individual points raised by reviewing guests.

“some good some bad”

Breakfast was really nice and room ok although dust on headboard. Sunday morning a wedding convention was on which was fun to wander through. Just disappointed that I left brand new pjs on bathroom door and immediately rang hotel to try and get them back. Rang again the next day too and on both occ… more

Breakfast was really nice and room ok although dust on headboard. Sunday morning a wedding convention was on which was fun to wander through. Just disappointed that I left brand new pjs on bathroom door and immediately rang hotel to try and get them back. Rang again the next day too and on both occasions the hotel told me a load of old flannel and never had any intentions of returning them I assume they were binned straight away.

We stayed on a Saturday night after attending a dinner in the Wordsworth Suite. The hotel is around 6 miles from Stratford and although there is a bus stop near the end of a drive, a car is needed to visit the tourist attractions. There is a pleasant pub in the village for anyone wanting a meal or drink close by. The grounds were impressive and the modern extension to the old hall has been tastefully managed. There was a large car park but there were al ot of pot holes and a lot of standing water. Our room was a typical twin room in a chain hotel - a decent size and spotlessly clean. Unlike a lot of hotels, the room temperature was just right. Breakfast was buffet style with a large selection of hot and cold items. The fried eggs were fresh, the bacon and grilled tomatoes were excellent, but I thought the sausage was bland and was disappointed that there were no mushrooms. The service at the conference meal were excellent, being friendly and efficient, but the food was uninspiring.
