What a lovely gem of a hotel, tucked away so lovely and peaceful. Dog friendly throughout the hotel and self catering cottages. We stayed in a small cottager perfect for 2 people and a dog. Everything you could need for a short stay is provided. Lovely comfy bed. It’s nice that you can use the hotel for breakfast and dinner if you don’t want to self cater. The breakfast was lovely, freshly cooked and plentiful. The staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely return. The views were breathtaking. Nice walk to the nearest beach

“A lovely stay marred by the checkout service!”

Our stay itself was very enjoyable, but sadly the check-out experience left us deeply disappointed. We had booked our stay using a Red Letter Days gift voucher, which had been confirmed in advance. Check-in was smooth, the staff attentive, and the hotel experience lovely — right up until we went to settle our bill. At check-out, we were presented with a final bill that included the room rate, despite it being prepaid through our voucher. When I queried this, the receptionist insisted — repeatedly — that the hotel hadn’t received payment and that I would need to pay and “sort it out” myself with Red Letter Days. I declined, explaining that the booking was already confirmed and paid for. Rather than verifying this efficiently, I was made to stand in reception for around 40 minutes, being told several times that I was responsible for the payment. It was only after the hotel owner became involved that the receptionist finally contacted the booking company — who immediately confirmed my reservation, processed the payment via virtual card, and even verified that it was not a scam, as had been suggested earlier. The whole situation could have been resolved in two or three minutes with basic professionalism and courtesy. Instead, it turned into an embarrassing and unnecessary ordeal that spoiled what had been a special weekend away. I would urge management to ensure that front-of-house staff are properly trained to handle third-party bookings, with clear procedures and contact details readily available. Guests should never be made to feel responsible for resolving internal payment issues. It’s a real shame this incident marred an otherwise lovely stay, as the hotel, location, and earlier service were excellent.

“Lovely oldy worldly hotel”

Lovely reception staff Tasha and Darren and restaurant server attentive and efficient. Good food and excellent afternoon tea with everything fresh and tasty

Such a disappointment. On the plus side the outside of the hotel is very pretty and the view from the garden is stunning but it all went down hill when we went inside. Such a disappointment. On the plus side the outside of the hotel is very pretty and the view from the garden is stunning but it all went down hill when we went inside. The rooms are spacious and beds comfortable but everything is looking a bit tired and need of a refurb. The staff weren’t great - quite junior and inexperienced with a knack of being where the residents aren’t - ie not very present in the dining room and bar. We did see people drop into the hotel to get a drink and promptly walk out because there was no one around - neither guests nor staff. My biggest irritation was the huge restaurant extension that has been added without any thought to making the most of the view from the garden . It’s such a shame because location wise this hotel could be stunning especially as the food was quite good in the evening- breakfast buffet though was disappointing. I would like to be more positive but for a stay in June this really wasn’t up to scratch .
