“Classic hospitality”

Superb hotel on the beach front but also over looking the river Yare, at Gorleston, Norfolk. The rooms are beautifully decorated in the art deco style and very tasteful. Wonderful welcoming atmosphere and great food. Can definitely recommend.

We hugely enjoyed our four day stay in the Pier Hotel. The location is divine, right on the beach with rooms overlooking the crashing waves or at the back of the hotel views right down the mighty River Yard with its boats and ships and all the tackle and trim of a port with great ships heading past off to Scandinavia and Germany. We got two nights in the much coveted Danny Boyle suite which was sheer heaven, huge and well positioned on the hotel corner with a gorgeous bathroom. Next door was also nice with a balcony and table and chairs on it. The staff were so helpful and pleasant and frankly could not do enough to make us feel at home. It began with a phone call, yes they picked up the telephone and discussed the kind of rooms we wanted and what was available. I can't say how nice that was after decades of computers . The booking was short and efficient and there was a cancellation feature too. Food; excellent breakfast in fact the best we've had for ages, and so flexible- mot hotels are far more restrictive about where you eat but on a warm day they were happy to bring out our long breakfast on to the terrace. It's all go there with families babies, teenagers and all looking at the wonderful very well supervised beach that goes on forever Room service was tops. The place was so beautifully cleaned and finished it was a priority with the hotel . A lovely bar was open late and in the day crab salads and lovely lunches were a delight n the terrace again. We missed the new American streamlined Seafood Caravan now parked even nearer the sea. But it looked great. Family run and friendly this hotel ticks all the boxes, London visitors compared the Danny Boyle with Claridges! He stayed there during the making of Yesterday the film set in Gorleston - and loved it. A detail - the staircase was so beautifully pitched it was a pleasure to walk up - and faster than the newer lift. Keeping fit in luxury Thank you Pier Staff, we shall be back

I have been visiting the beach and promenade at Gorleston for years and with my son-in-law belonging to the local sailing club have visited most Sundays. We regularly called into the hotel for refreshments but I decided to stay at the hotel as a last minute guest. I had a partial sea view room which was comfortable but with plenty of places to sit and admire the views it was not an issue. The hotel is a family owned and run hotel and you feel that from the atmosphere and very helpful staff from the moment you step through the door. The food is excellent both for breakfast and main meals and all served by excellent staff. One of the owners who is also the General Manager invited me to the birthday celebrations for Genna Brown 108 years young accompanied by singer Kala Beare - it was a brilliant afternoon. The only downside was the weather with strong winds, rain and a greyness and there was nothing the hotel staff could do about that. If you are visiting Gorleston then head for the hotel on the Pier.
