I stayed at this hotel for 4 days, looking for a quiet, relaxing location for recovery time after a minor op. I could not have picked better, comfortable room, with a large bed which I could see and hear the birds from my window, the room was cleaned and re stocked daily, a fab size duel head shower that did not leak into the bathroom, other hotels take note this makes a difference to us. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Now onto the big one for me, I am glutin intolerant, I explained this to the lovely waitress on night one, she smiled and explained no worries she would discuss with chef, came back with a list, yes a list of options (which I kept for my stay) I won't list what I had as sure menu changes BUT just saying the Fish and Chips might be the best I have had EVER! My only downside was the additional nightly parking costs, I assume, being near Gatwick airport this why, but as a general guest, I feel like including it in hotel costs might have been preferable for me.

Lovely dinner bed and breakfast at the beautiful Stanhill Court Hotel, Charlwood, Surrey (I love a deal and blue light along with Buyagift) did us proud!) Lovely views, good food and a great way to spend our 35th wedding anniversary. They weren’t quite as good as other places in previous years at recognizing it was a Wedding Anniversary (and I did tell them!) -no congratulations or ‘happy wedding anniversary’ greeting, no freebies, no personal touches or treats (maybe we’ve just been lucky with other places) but we did get a room upgrade! Disappointing as it doesn’t take much. I feel this is a high level hotel with good facilities and food so this little personal touch would have meant so much When checking out we weren’t asked if everything was ok so I mentioned the noisy plastic which was being caught in the wind outside our bedroom window-it was over the glass/perspex roof- I presume to stop a leak- but had torn and was moving noisily in the wind

I am writing this review based on 2 very recent stays. One left a fair bit to be desired, and the other was excellent. Hence the 3 score. I have stayed here several times before and on those occasions found it to be very good. The location is brilliant - we stay here for its close proximity to the airport, and yet it’s out in the country. Perfect. The reception staff are very welcoming and friendly, as indeed, are all the staff. For both stays I booked a superior room with an extra large double bed. When we arrived for our first stay this month, I was told I had a free upgrade which I thought was a lovely touch, as I had messaged some time ahead to ask for as large a bed as possible. The room (8) was indeed lovely, but with a standard double bed. I immediately returned to Reception and asked for a room with an extra large bed. I was assured all the beds in the hotel were the same size, and that the bed in that room was indeed large. I returned to the room and we unpacked. In my case I keep a sewing kit, and there was a tape measure, so I duly measured the bed. 4ft 6in. Standard double. I returned to Reception to say the bed was definitely not an extra large double. I was then offered a room with a bigger bed, but I said we needed to stay in 8 as my husband was unwell with a cold and had unpacked so there was no way he would want to move. But I did want to inform them the size of the bed was as I had originally said…….a standard double. Dinner was excellent and reasonably priced. About 20 past midnight the “Events” people started setting off loud bangs and the fire alarms. This happened about 3 times. A terrible night’s sleep…..a small bed and disruption from other guests. A lot of money for a sleepless night. Breakfast was excellent. Our second visit……a super room with a 6ft bed! I had verified before we left from the other visit what I would be requiring and was given it. Absolutely lovely. No dinner this stay as we had already eaten, but breakfast was again excellent. I would like to point out to the management that each time I book to stay here I ask for a room with as big a bed as possible please (and I pay extra on the booking in any case for an extra large bed). Each time I am told that I cannot specify a particular room, and my request will hopefully be adhered to. Now why is that? All other hotels, both home and abroad,…….if I ask for a particular room, it is allocated, so why not at Stanhill? I will continue to book this hotel for every time we use Gatwick airport, as it is lovely in many ways, but I really would like to be able to get a room that I request.
