Rosebery Hall is student accommodation that lets out rooms during vacations to any travellers. Most of the rooms are singles, so it offers great value for solo travellers on a budget looking to stay in central London. The Hall provides an excellent breakfast included in its basic rate and is reasonably well located on frequent bus routes with two TfL cycle hire stations close by (Hardwick Street is nearest and often easier to find spaces/bikes on), but is a few minutes' walk from the nearest tube (Angel). There are plenty of pubs, cafes and convenience stores nearby. Rooms are basic, with no TV or coffee making facilities, and the shared kitchens don't always have cutlery or crockery for visitors to use and don't provide tea, coffee or milk. My bed felt like it was missing a few springs and there was only one, quite thin pillow, but I slept well enough. Each landing has shared shower/WCs. The one on my floor was a little odd, with the shower doors only going to shoulder height, and then a shower curtain on the inside of the door. You had to hang your clothing over the door (no pegs or dry place to put them inside), and any footwear had to be left outside. I think it was intended for single sex use (men only) but there was nothing to stop me trying to use facilities on other floors.

For the price you get what you pay for. The rooms were warm and stuffy which meant having the window open. Decent breakfast.

Good: Breakfast buffet; beds ok; clean; 24-hour reception; friendly cat in the lounge/dining area. Bad: Cramped room; doors bang shut very loudly in the hall at all hours; in-room sink water not drinkable (come on, London); common showers poorly designed such that you can't avoid getting a blast of cold or scalding water when you turn it on, and then it oscillates between hot and cold on its own; kitchen poorly equipped with a microwave and stovetop but few cooking utensils; very spartan prison ambiance; poor value for money.

Reasonably priced, basic accommodation, available during student holidays. Nearest walkable Tube stations are Angel (8mins), Farringdon (15mins) and King’s Cross St. Pancras (22mins). It’s a secure building with a reception manned 24/7. My single room, with shared bathroom facilities, was clean, but basic. The single bed was like a camp bed - definitely not the most comfortable! A towel, shampoo and shower gel were provided. The curtains were not black-out curtains, allowing lots of light into the room, which some may find causes poor sleep. Also, depending on your room location, it can be very noisy, again, possibly disrupting your sleep. Ear plugs are essential! Breakfast is excellent, with a large range of cold and hot options, really everything you could want, it’s the best thing about the property. No hostel I know of provides this kind of breakfast - LSE student accommodation is probably one of the few budget accommodation options offering a proper breakfast. Note that the property advertises a restaurant on various websites, but this is only open for breakfast, no other time of the day. Please note that although there are kitchens which guests are permitted to use, disappointingly, they are not stocked with cups, glasses, crockery or cutlery. The kitchen’s do have fridge-freezers, a cooker and microwave, but you’ll have to find utensils to cook and eat with. Self-service laundry is well-priced at £2.80 per wash and £1.40 per dry. There is a communal seating areas with a few games tables. There’s no TV area. Overall… it’s a decent option if you don’t want to share a dorm room but also don’t want the expense of a hotel.
