WOW! Without boring the reader with detail, I have cause to stay in hotels the length and breadth of the country on a fairly regular basis: some are more memorable than others, and then you stay at one that leaves you wondering when the next opportunity might be that you are able to stay there again. I last left a review for Donnington Hotel & Spa in 2017. I had reason to return in January 2026, and felt compelled to post another review. On this occasion I stayed for 2-nights. Having parked up in the ample free parking area, I approached the entrance doors with a little intrepidation, and hope, that all to come would be as it was the last time I stayed. The doors opened, and WOW, I was immediately met with the calming and very natural feeling of a very sympathetically and thought through makeover. To my right on the wall, a fantastic new mural, colour coded to blend seamlessly with the natural, earthy feel of the entrance area. The Reception area has been revamped, and is very easy on the ye. I was greeted as a returner by a very warm, efficient, happy and smiling Receptionist. I was greeted by name, and it just felt like returning to familiarity, and I hadn't even checked in yet! Checking in was seamless, and I witnessed the Receptionist attend to an issue concerning a guest, which was dealt with very swiftly indeed. As I walked down the corridor toward the lift, I could not help but smile: my nose began to fill with that lovely, fresh, understated, almost perfume aroma that filled the air. My room was - as I have always found it to be - very clean, and with quality detailing. A card on the desk welcomed me back: a very nice touch. I went for something to eat, and was immediately struck by the colour coded uniform now adorning the staff, who all bar none appeared to be proud to wear it. At the bar, I was attended to very efficient;y, and informed that my order would be brought to me, and that all I needed to do was relax: again, a nice touch. The menu was keenly priced and its quality was as I remember: I had the risotto one night, and the fish and chips on the second night, both of which were fantastic. Breakfast was set out, ready to go at 7-am sharp: which is a refreshing change from it not being ready on time, and having to watch it being set up at other places I have stayed at. I was greeted by an attentive, knowledgeable and engaging staff member (whose name, sadly, escapes me). Her omelette recommendation sounded to good to be true, but given that it arrived, and was fantastic, it was true! The general hotel public areas makeover extended into the dining area, and it felt just as comfortable as before, but perhaps even more pleasing to the eye than before. Sadly, I was unable on this occasion to avail of the wonderful spa, gym and swimming pool facilities within the hotel , and if that were not lament enough, nor was I amble to explore the local area via the various walks from the hotel, and their immaculately kept golf course (where even the green keepers have colour coded uniform!). The rooms have smart TV's as standard, but another example of why Donnington stands apart? Frustratingly, I forgot to bring my HDMI cable. I wondered whether I could borrow one. No sooner had I explained my plight to Reception, but via a call from the Receptionist to Facilities, a cable was on its way up to my room, delivered less than 2-minutes after my return. The hotel is quiet, personable, efficient and very friendly: nothing being too much trouble. For example, on the morning I was checking out, I was somewhat later than expected, dealing with work related matters on the laptop. I was in no way hurried to vacate my room, and indeed, in leaving when I did, I met a smiling (and in coloured coded uniform also) woman in House-keeping in the corridor, who smiled and wished me a good morning: something I do not experience from Housekeeping in other places I stay at! Further, I was told it was no problem, if I wished to stay longer! In summary, if the reader of this is looking for a combination of quality, service with a smile, and an all round user-friendly stay, without the price prohibitive price tag, may I suggest that you give Donnington a try, as it is best best all around value for money option around, whether you are looking to get away to switch off and relax, or whether you are looking for a user friendly, hassle free environment in which to work. For me? I cannot wait for the opportunity to get back there, as for me, Donnington under promises but over delivers!

I love a bit of Donnington Valley. It's that bit of comfort and kindness that can be relied on in life's big & small moments.I was lucky enough to spend my big birthday weekend along with my best friend at Donnington. The reception staff greet you as friends, the restaurant manager & his staff share their knowledge & enthusiasm to make sure you have the best experience.The hotel is beautifully presented & welcoming.The housekeeping staff put a birthday card & chocolates in my room which was so thoughtful of them. We made full use of all their spa facilities & felt very relaxed spoilt & special. Donnington valley is my happy place.

As regulars to this hotel it was an easy decision to choose Donnington for the venue for a very special family event. The rooms were as always well appointed and spotlessly clean. The food is wonderful, made with care and beautifully presented. The restaurant staff are a joy. The only slight disappointment was the welcome at reception was brusque and unfriendly. The guest of honour of this event was upset by the welcome received. Fortunately this was made up for by the rest of the wonderfully helpful staff. We will be back very soon.
