Positive enough stay to break a long journey. Parking was easy and included in price which is not always common at hotels these days…good to see. Positive enough stay to break a long journey. Parking was easy and included in price which is not always common at hotels these days…good to see. Room was comfortable enough although bed was quite small for a double and didn’t have air conditioning (although fans were provided.) Staff were helpful and breakfast had a decent enough range of options. Swimming pool is a good size although frustrating that jacuzzi was out of order and did look like it has been for a while…gym equipment is quite tired now but bigger than many hotel gyms so not a complaint. In summary a decent enough, low budget way to break a journey - no complaints and a generally positive stay.

Room We booked an executive room that had a patio. The size of the room was large and felt nice and spacious. The room decor felt very corporate and needs an update. The bed was large and very comfy. The TV was of a good size and has lots of channels to watch. There is a fridge, coffee making facilities, safe, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. They provide a small shampoo/conditioner, bar of soap. The bathroom had an all in one bath/shower combo. The shower had great power, it was lovely! There needs to be some updates in the bathroom. 1. The shower was missing a temperature sign above the knobs so you didn't know which way to turn it to make it hotter or colder. 2. The shower could also do with a hand rail on the wall so you can hold onto it. 3. A glass covering for a shower, not a shower curtain. The rooms did not have Aircon, we were provided with a small fan. Our room came with a private patio area - this part needed more thought. We had two chairs but no table, none of the patios had tables. I feel this is something the hotel should invest in, because who wants to sit outside on the patio with their glasses or plates resting on the floor? For an executive room, I feel it lacked in certain places, I was expecting more. Water was not provided, no dressing gowns or slippers. Breakfast There was plenty of choice from bacon and sausages to cereal. However, there was a lack of pastries and fruit - they only had a choice of two pastries (Pain au chocolat and croissant) and melon, grapes or pineapple for fruit. Steven and Hannah did a great job in the restaurant during breakfast. Steven is very friendly and has some good recommendations as to what to do or see in the local area. Hannah was prompt at cleaning the tables and restocking food. The chef, Clare also did a great job behind the scenes. The breakfast tasted nice and we were happy with the food. The restaurant was clean and tables were cleared and set promptly. Tables were well spaced apart, you didn't feel like you were sitting right on top of other guests. Hotel There is plenty of parking at the hotel. Inside, there are nice seating areas, if you want to sit down and read or have a quiet drink. The upkeep of the hotel was in a good condition and areas were clean. Spa We used the spa but did not have any treatments. There are set swimming times for children. But staff must stick to this rule and stop children going into the pool when it is adults only times. The pool is a good size (17m) for swimming lengths. The hot tub was still out of use. The sauna and steam room were of good size and fully working. The spa can be a long walk from some rooms. Outside the hotel We did a few walks and visits to local places. Donnington Castle is a 10minute drive away. The Watership Down walk is a 25 minute drive. Newbury is also a 10 minute drive away - a nice high street with lots of shops.
