Good stay, big room. Great freshly cooked breakfast. 1065358022 Stayed here after trying a large chain in Norwich which was dire. This was half the price. Its a Pub with rooms, despite booking.com calling it a hotel. Finding it was quite easy, its a stones throw from the main football stadium. Car park is a decent size, luckily I didn't need to use their car charger as it had a car parked in front of it. Check in was painless, was asked to pay and should have been sharper here, more later! A young lady from behind the bar showed me to my room. I was in Room 4 It's an old building so creaky floors are part of the build. Room was clean and very big, bigger than the chain room I'd had the night before. Nice bathroom. Despite being above a bar (which was packed when I arrived) I couldn't hear a thing. On checking my banking app I found I'd been charged twice, once by Booking.com and also by the pub. Not good and I had to chase around to get it refunded. Good nights sleep, its a residential area and despite there being football on the TV no noise from the bar. When you check in they ask you for your breakfast time. I came down for breakfast, after a good shower (lots of very hot water). The breakfast area is around the corner of the bar. I don't do any news channels these days. Had indigestion here as they had a 67" TV on in the breakfast room GMB. Watching the PM pontificate about social media bans for under 16 year olds meant I ate breakfast sharp and ran away. Shame as it was good breakfast! Check out was drop the key off and into the car. Again the charger was parked in front of, this time by a builders van. Exiting the local roads at 9ish was a pain as there is a school just up the road, so loads of drop offs etc.

This is a bullet point overview of a 2 night midweek stay with my wife. Good Points Price point favourable Decent Beer selection Room was clean and well equipped if not a little basic Hot Shower on demand Breakfast was excellent, better the second morning ( different chef) EV charging available Ample free parking Not far from city though situated 1/2 mile up a hill Not so good points Some locals language was a bit near the knuckle of easily offended (which we are not btw) In short, we would return here. Jane is very friendly as was the chef on our second morning (11/6)

Not brilliant to be honest, though far from the worst too. No complaints at all about the lady behind the bar who welcomed us - she was fine and did her job perfectly. But the premises seemed old and past their best. The room was a bit depressing and half below ground level, though it was clean enough and the bed was ok. The pub itself smelt of smoke, which was odd since smoking is no longer allowed in pubs, and it was a bit of a dowdy, charmless place. Subjective I know - but it felt like a hang out for regulars rather than somewhere for a visitor to enjoy. On the plus side, it’s close to the city (though at the top of a hill) and there is a spacious car park. All in all the William IV is okay for a night, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. Sorry.
