Originally booked for one night but ended up booking a second night as we loved the Telford Suite so much. Giant comfortable French style bed. Free standing bath, which was the highlight of our stay. Modern bathroom with a powerful shower. Beautiful large windows with shutters that overlook the garden. Comfy chair and large tv with satallite. Kettle, tea, coffee etc Staff very friendly and helpful. Spa facilities were very good (you get a free lock for the lockers and towels from spa reception) Yes it’s a big old building and it has it’s flaws but it’s under new management and from what I could see from previous visits, it is being refurbished slowly. Cooked Breakfast portions are HUGE and delicious. Also self serve Continental. During our stay there was no option of a 3 course meal (only basic bar meals) but the staff explain this to you when you check in and suggest that you can get food delivered/bring your own food and they provide you with crockery, cutlery and napkins (we did this the 1st night and had a bar meal the 2nd night) Cannot fault the friendliness of the staff who obviously work hard. We will return again to the beautiful Telford Suite. Diolch/Thank you.

I'm writing this review sitting on the lovely french style queen size bed in the Telford Suite about a week AFTER last times visit. I've been coming to this lovely old quirky hotel for years - it's changed hands twice since I first fell in love with it's charm and it's fair to say some reviews have not been very sympathetic whilst the New (new) owners get to grips with the place. It's a Georgian building and has over the years gradually become a bit dilapidated... but that adds to it's charm - It's NOT a Prem Inn or Mercure. It's got character and deserves to be given more appreciation. YES it does need money spending on it and the new guys are slowly beginning to whip it into shape. When I read negative reviews it saddens me somewhat as all the place needs is footfall to justify it's refurbishment and from my repeated visits, these guys are trying hard. A building like this is always going to have issues with water finding it's way inside - the odd bit of damp is unavoidable but given the history of the place, for me, it's tolerable and certainly no worse than some of the modern units with temp restricted convector heaters on the wall which take forever to warm up . I've only ever stayed in either The Telford Suite or the Boardroom suites. BOTH are perfectly lovely in different ways... Telford being my preference so I can lounge in the deep free standing bath and gaze out of the window with a g and t or cup of tea (mornings). The bed is comfortable - the décor (including new carpet) still shabby chic but perfectly clean and the bath to die for. The wifi is also now improved though tbh, I always bring my own WIFI point to keep Alexa online with me. the Tea/Coffee station well stocked- as are the toiletries . Reception moved from the daft place it used to be, to right next to the front door - it doesn't afford the staff much working privacy but it DOES make sense. Breakfast cooked to order is good and served in a timely way. IF I had a magic money tree I'd give these guys a load of dosh to spend on the place - reality is, Hotels are expensive to run, profit margins not what they used to be and with that in mind, there's nothing not to like. If people look through kinder eyes or walk a mile in the owners shoes, they'd realise perfection isn't possible at this price point... Willing staff with a friendly demeaner make up for any creaking floors or drafty windows. I love the place.
