After reading the reviews I was dreading coming to the hotel. We were originally booked into the malthouse but had to rearrange the dates, Ashley Manager at the malthouse very kindly rebooked us in at the swan hotel as there was no availability at the malthouse. Then I read the reviews, it's true stairs to the rooms are a little narrow and carpet a little worn. Our room however was lovely, overlooking the river severn. A large room , very bright, old beams. The room and bathroom were clean. The bath did have a handheld shower which isn't ideal however I was expecting this after reading the reviews and it wasn't a big deal. The location is perfect for the Ironbridge and a very short walk to shops and restaurants. We booked breakfast and that was at the malthouse a 2 minute walk away which was no bother and breakfast was very good. Good quality sausage and bacon and my husband upgraded to the gorge breakfast for £3 and it was huge. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was served promptly. We also ate lunch at the swan hotel, max who served us was really friendly and the food was really good. We will definitely return next year. A very pleasant stay. Big plus they have parking.

Stayed here for one night on a stopover from the north-west to the south-east. The hotel is pleasantly located across the road from the River Severn. The Iron Bridge is within easy walking distance, and the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron is also (just about) walkable. The room was clean and functional, albeit pretty dated and basic – for example, only a handheld shower over the bath with no shower curtain, and no towel rail in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is available, although a pile of rubbish dumped in one corner of the car park creates a poor first impression. There was quite a bit of noise from the pub during the evening, exacerbated by the fact that sunny weather encouraged many to sit outside – but perhaps that is to be expected in such a place. The pub serves meals, although the menu was rather too burger-oriented for my taste. Breakfast is available at a nearby hostelry, but only from 8 am, so I skipped it. Overall, this served its purpose as a cheapish brief stop, but I would not want to make a longer stay.
