Our experience matched most of the other reviews as we had a very happy experience at Storrs Hall. The room and bathroom were spacious, very clean and well maintained. When we stayed it was during the heatwave being experienced just further south and given the age and history of the building there was no air conditioning. However we closed the heavy curtains during the day, opened the windows at night and that helped. The breakfast choice is excellent. The Bistro was good but I think it would have been an idea to alternate the menu every evening to provide a wider choice. The setting of the hotel is excellent, right on the lake and plenty of seats outside for drinks before and after dinner.

“Boat house wedding”

We had our elopement wedding at storrs hall . We rented the boathouse for two nights which was the perfect romantic spot. The staff team were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We had our elopement wedding at storrs hall . We rented the boathouse for two nights which was the perfect romantic spot. The staff team were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Shout outs to Julia ,Steph ,Carl ,Rachel ,Tracy Amy and Jordan . The setting is superb , food lovely especially breakfast. We had breakfast delivered to the boat house on the morning of our wedding. The team decorated the gazebo for us with our flowers and took them down to try and preserve a few for us for our onward trip . Evening meals were in the bistro which again was pleasant although the chicken was very salty . All round it was a fantastic experience made even better by exceptionally good weather . So good we are returning next year for our first anniversary

We stayed for two nights in a Lake View room with the bath by the window, paying around £770 for our stay. We knew we were paying a premium for the location, and the bath overlooking the lake was genuinely the highlight of our visit. Breakfast was also excellent, with a great selection, and the breakfast staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Unfortunately, almost everything else fell short of the standard you'd expect for a hotel at this price point. We arrived on a 27°C day to find our room at 30°C with the radiators still on. The air conditioning had only just been switched on as we arrived, which was appreciated but made very little difference. The weather forecast wasn't a surprise, and we'd even emailed beforehand to let the hotel know I was pregnant and struggling with the heat. It would have been a simple but thoughtful touch to have the room cooled before we arrived. The following day I asked reception if a sewing kit and some extra towels could be sent to our room. They said no problem, and everything was there when we got back. Shortly afterwards, however, we received an email charging us £2.50 for the sewing kit. The amount isn't the issue - it's the principle. Either absorb the cost in a room that's nearly £400 a night, or at the very least make guests aware there's a charge before sending it up. The final straw came at checkout when we were presented with a bill including a £40 discretionary service charge, when apart from the requesting the sewing kit, we didn’t receive any additional services. Charging guests £770 for two nights and then asking for an additional service charge at the end felt completely out of touch. Not to mention very American. It left a really sour taste, especially when the receptionist handling our checkout was abrupt and unfriendly when we queried it. Overall, whilst there were certainly positives, they were overshadowed by a series of disappointing experiences that simply shouldn't happen at this price point. We expected a luxury stay, but instead left feeling disappointed.
