Great location for York outlet shops and the racecourse with some good restaurant / pub choices within walking distance. I stayed with my daughter as a special half term night away and we had a lovely time. The hotel felt child friendly whilst having a good balance for non family guests too. Most of the staff were friendly, although the front desk staff didn’t feel very welcoming sadly and some of the check in / parking processes weren’t very clear. The breakfast team in the restaurant were fantastic. Josephine, Alex, Will and Millie were all superb. (I specifically asked for their names as they really enhanced our experience). They were friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfast selection was brilliant and there was something for everyone as well as different style of eggs (done very quickly) on request. Clearer signage of where breakfast is would be helpful. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was good however, there are some areas that could do with refreshing as although they aren’t dated the do look a bit worn out. Cleanliness was good generally and the housekeeping staff were all friendly. The free drinking water fountain near reception was great, especially on the hot days. The pool was easy to access kept in good clean condition and fun. Having the later check out of 12pm meant we could visit on both days which gave us even better value for money. There is a ladder leading out of the pool which could do with looking at is it didn’t feel secure to use. As it is a smaller pool, it can get a bit crowded at peak times (just after check in) but still accessible. Free towels were supplied which is really helpful. The changing rooms were well equipped and clean with showers, toilets, swimming costume dryer, wet kit plastic bags and lockers. The lockers require £1 coin which if you don’t have, reception will lend you a token. The room was a good size with plenty of storage, great bathroom and powerful shower, a good sized working TV, a wardrobe, safe and mini fridge as well as a firm but comfortable bed. I would say it was good value for money (depending on when you stay) and would happily stay again. It isn’t cheap but it doesn’t feel cheap and you feel like you get what you pay for. The paid for parking is a disappointment as there isn’t much choice but to park there and therefore pay. A discount for staying at the hotel would be a nice touch.

We stayed at this hotel for one night for my Fiancés birthday and were somewhat disappointed with the experience. The hotel staff were amazing and very friendly however the room left me wanting. The bathroom was quite dated and the shower area was very small. However the toiletries provided were amazing. We also used the pool, jacuzzi and sauna facilities. We found them to be dirty and not the standard I would expect from a Marriott. The jacuzzi was also lacking in power from the jets and definitely needs upgrading. The art across the hotel was also not very tasteful but I suppose this is personal taste so can’t be complained about. Overall I don’t think I would stay again and would be happier staying somewhere in a similar price range for a more luxurious experience.
