My girlfriend and I had an overnight stay while visiting Walton. The room was spacious & comfortable with a great sea view. Staff are very attentive and helpful. Cannot comment on breakfast as we didn’t include it. There is a small car park to the rear of the hotel which is very much first come first serve so that’s something to bear in mind. We would definitely book again.

My wife and I stayed at the Esplanada Hotel in Clacton-on-Sea from 31 July to 2 August 2026 and found it to be a mixed experience, with a fantastic location and welcoming staff but some notable drawbacks that affected our overall stay. The hotel’s location is excellent, offering easy access to the seafront and surrounding attractions, which made it a convenient base for exploring the area. Our room was spacious, bright, and comfortable, with high ceilings and plenty of windows that filled the space with natural light and a refreshing sea breeze. The staff were consistently friendly and welcoming, helping to create a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere from the moment we arrived. On-site parking was another big plus, especially given that many nearby hotels don’t offer this, and the bed itself was extremely comfortable. The large fan in the room was a thoughtful touch that made sleeping much easier during warmer nights. the bar was nice and the drink prices were very reasonable for the area. However, there were several aspects that let the experience down. In the room, only basic tea and coffee-making facilities were provided, and no drinking water was available, despite the bathroom tap being clearly labelled as not suitable for consumption. While we were eventually able to get a jug of water from the bar, this felt like something that should be standard in the room rather than an extra request. Both nights of our stay coincided with functions in the bar. On the first night we were told we could attend, but after a long day we were hoping for an early night; instead, the loud music and vibration made it feel almost like trying to sleep above a nightclub. On the second night, a 30th birthday party meant that while we could get a drink from the bar, we were asked to take it back to our room, limiting our ability to relax in the bar area as paying guests. Parking, although available, was also problematic on the Saturday night when the car park was completely full. We only managed to park after speaking to someone setting up a photo booth, who kindly moved so we could squeeze in, but the arrangement felt cramped and impractical, particularly if you needed to leave quickly. Finally, the Wi-Fi was unreliable and frequently dropped out. While we didn’t rely on it heavily, the television depended on the Wi-Fi connection, which meant that when we did try to watch something in the evenings, it often froze after just a few minutes. Overall, the Esplanada Hotel offers a great location, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff, but issues with noise from functions, limited parking capacity, lack of in-room drinking water, and unstable Wi-Fi meant our stay was less restful and convenient than we had hoped. With a few improvements in these areas, it could be a much more enjoyable place to stay.
